FINAL TRIAL


[Once everyone has managed to gather every piece of evidence they can get their hands on, there is, at last, a sense that they can go up to the top on the elevator that works. Granted, with access now granted, they probably could have gone up at any time, but it they would have been ill-prepared for what might be up there.

In any case, they might not have needed to worry.]



[Barbara will no doubt recognize this place as where Marie brought her just the previous week. It is a master control room, filled with buttons and levers that line the walls. However, the dome also allows for a view of what's outside - of the skies, the stars, the planets. The alpine valley the Base is situated, with its bubbling waterfall, and the crystal-clear blue lake it empties into, surrounded by flowers below the Base's base. The lake itself empties into a crystal clear river that looks to be narrow, but deep and rapid.

In the center of the room, near where the elevator rises out of the floor, is a chair, with a giant plush of that cheeky raccoon snuggled into it. Once everyone has come into the room, the elevator melts into the floor with a slurping sound. Now, everyone is here - and there's only one seat, meaning almost everyone will be standing for the duration of this discussion. There's no food or drink here, either - the Titled will have to make do with whatever they brought with them.

There's is a rumble below, as the Titled, together with Bottson and their menagerie of animals - gather together for one last trial. Everyone and everything in this universe may be at stake, and ultimately, either they all go home - or no one will.]


[It's time! The objectives are simple in this trial. It's time to finally answer the questions the Titled have about why they are here - and face the Mastermind of the Base.

Most importantly, though - who's got dibs on that chair? It's the only one in the room!

[Vita is going to stop the Diatron-15 and also come over. She doesn't care about the sticky, she just wants Kerri to be okay.]

[Even as Naoya holds her, she continues to melt, losing that human shape.]

I'm not human...but it doesn't make me less of one. You all showed me that...

[It's hard to tell if she's crying or not but her voice waivers slightly.]

You're good as well and we'll figure out some way that you can be with us.

[He's got his arms around her, making sure she's as comfortable as possible. This... doesn't look good for her.]

I... appreciate that. Heh. You'll be remembered, Kerri. If we can't figure out a way to pull you out of this... you'll live on, because you won't be forgotten.

[ Even as she's melting, he's going to move over and gently take her arm. It might be hard to tell she's crying, but it's kind of obvious he is. Whoops... ]

You're a wonderful person, Kerri... We- we owe you everything...

[She wasn't expecting something like this. Her head (or rather blob) looks up at them and she musters up something of a smile. This is nice...she was expecting to die on some battlefield against the Red Army. The Order would mourn and move on to defeat the evil destroying the universe and she wasn't expecting anything special.

And yet with these people around her, it feels nice. She's happy as her form droops down and swirls around those near her as it becomes nothing more than a puddle on the floor. It certainly did not look like a person was there but to them...she was human.

Kerri, the Priest of the Sherry, is dead.]

[Unfortunately no. It's melted with the rest of her.]

[Well, fuck.

Molly's gonna reach over and... Touch the ooze.]

[He's silent for a few moments, before standing up and exhaling. He tugs off his robe, leaving him in the simple plain clothes that he woke up in, so he can wrap up at least part of the puddle.]

[The others have to know. She needs some kind of burial.]

[Vita definitely looks like she's about to cry. Kerri was so kind to them and she'd want a happy life for her too. Leaving her alone didn't feel like a great option either, but is letting her die a good one?]

I'm not convinced this is the end for her. She has a soul, there must be something we can do once we have our powers back.

[God, what a way to go...

Jonathan doesn't know what to do, not faced with yet another needless death. He settles for putting his arm around Vita's shoulders, trying to be more solid than he feels he is.]

The least we can do is try, you're right.

[Not that he has any powers of his own....]

[Vita appreciates that. He may not know Kerri, but she knows he'd have liked her and felt grateful for what she did.]

I have to try. She doesn't deserve this after what she did to help all of us. We wouldn't have even gotten here if it wasn't for her help. She did so much more than just give us a place to stay.

We'll... figure something out. I'm sure.

[He just doesn't know what, yet.]

I have two ideas. One I'm not sure if it will work since she wasn't human. The other requires asking the assistance of someone truly loathsome who would see through me in a heartbeat because our clans never got along.

We can try the first, and if it comes to the second then we can... convince them, if need be.

Or break into the Black Workshop and gain the knowledge of how to do it. It would be hard, but I think we have people here who could do that.

I imagine you could. If my first idea doesn't work then I'll find a way to bring you and others who can do it to my home and teach you about how our security works.
