Ah, that is both simple and complicated at the same time.

This television is powered by electricity - most things in the world run on it, and the television itself uses a very complicated system of wires and circuitry to spread it to the correct areas. On top of that, this is a newer model - televisions used to be quite heavy, and it's screen would be made of glass, since what used to be used was an invention called the Cathode Ray Tube, or CRT. Nowadays, I believe color changing crystals in a thin paste - much easier to use and less heavy in the bargain - help to create the color and images.

[Then he shrugs.]

Then again, I'm hardly an expert on such matters! And I'm certain my explanation was sorely lacking, but that's about the gist of it as far as I currently know.
