WEEK 3

[Well. Good morning, Strangers. When you wake up, you will realize two things.

The first is that something has changed with your memories. One of them is different from when you recall it being before. Clearer, more coherent, more...correct, somehow.

Could it have been an effect of what happened with the trial? You don't know. What you do know is that the staircase outside of the bedrooms has also changed-the way is no longer blocked. There is a new floor above to explore, now.

What do you do, now? Will you eat anything that had been offered by the Stewards, if you'd managed to snag some of it during the trial? Will you continue to dive into the mystery of this place? And if you do-how much more will it cost you?

There is, unfortunately, only one way to find out.

[ah. Osomatsu sighs. he supposes his brilliant plan will have to wait]

That's okay. You just worry about taking care of him.

[Franciscus nods.] At least he has space to fly free, here. I'm not sure where he was being kept before this, but I can't imagine it being as open.

They like animals, right? Maybe they're keeping them all in this nice pasture where they can roam free. [maybe that's where Gerard is]

The way my teacher spoke of it... he focused on his mother's love, and the kindness of his friends, and that let him push back the darkness.

[He pauses, mulling over how much to tell, and how to tell it.]

He did not have an easy road to the life he lives now. He was forced by circumstance to become a patricide more than once. But the love and kindness of those who did not live nearly so long as he himself... has kept him on the side of the just.

[Krone would be a hell of a frontline spokeswoman for one of the temperance leagues back home, being able to convey that much distaste for drunken recklessness in a tiny gesture and a twist of power granted by those in control of this place. Eric doesn't even care that the beer is gone, really. Overwhelmed and shaky with relief, he takes her hand in his, somewhat clumsily.]

John's alive. It doesn't matter if he's angry at me forever, he's not dead - I didn't fail completely!

That's a nice thought...perhaps it's on the roof of this place, however high up it may be. And I suppose the lack of sunlight is probably better for the native creatures, including him. [Moths are nocturnal, after all. He knows that much.]

[oh, the roof! imagine an animal ranch on the roof... neat!]

Yeah... [all native creatures. hm]

[Poor Hydrangea misses the sun a lot. Franciscus gestures at Puck.]

His ability to carry people may still be uncertain, but I'm sure he wouldn't mind being pet by you. [Moths are actually pretty fuzzy, after all.]

[Osomatsu blinks. he kind of zoned out there for a minuate.

slowly, he gets to his feet, watching the moth. then he holds out his hand to it]

Hey, buddy. I'm not gonna hurt you. I'm Osomatsu.

[The moth's antennae wriggle slightly, as he tilts his head from side to side, looking at Osomatsu with each eye. Franciscus chuckles at the sight, before gesturing with his hand. After a bit, he turns back and bows his head, offering the furry top of it for Osomatsu to pet.]

[there we go. Osomatsu steps forward, patting the furry head with a delicate hand]

...H-hey... this is pretty cool. I bet every little boy had a dream to have a giant bug when they were growin' up.

Technically, I wanted a giant bird. [Which he got, after all.] But I can appreciate all sorts of winged creatures. People who dislike Bug-types are certainly missing out.

...Someday I hope I can meet more Pokémon. I know you talked a lot about the different types, but it's sometimes hard to imagine.

[he needs a Pokémon picture book]

I can't say as much about the strength of gods and monsters. [Krone's lips twitch in her awkwardness; her eyes are a little wide with all these violent terms thrown back and forth.] But my training on addiction and other developmental harms prescribes exactly what you're both talking about.

[Franciscus nods.] I suppose...in Cartesio we might find some books on them from a fictional perspective, at least. But it definitely wouldn't compare to meeting real ones.

[he finally lowers his hand. the moth was really fuzzy!]

I'm... glad you could tell me about your world, you know? Even though we can't go there, or to my world, it's still good that we have memories.

[they're not their memories, really, but... it's something]

Of course. I'm happy to tell you whatever you'd like to know. [Maybe one day when they get out they can watch an episode of the anime or something and Franciscus can complain about everything they get wrong.] Or to listen, if you'd like to tell me about yours.

Osomatsu's world didn't have anything cool, like super animals.

[a beat as he pulls away, grinning down at Franciscus]

And it didn't have you.

[oh, that's surprisingly romantic for him]

[Ah, that is pretty sweet. Franciscus grins at that.] Well, I'd rather have you in a world with just two Pokemon, than be in the Pokemon world without you. [Clearly he has to flirt back, then.]

[ah... Franciscus is laying on the charm. well, good, he thinks. because Osomatsu likes the attention. flirt with him, by all means!

but he's gotten distracted, and now he can't think of how he wants to flirt back!]

Anyways, if Puck cooperates and you can train him, let us know. Someone might have a better idea than me about how to use him.

Of course. For all I know, one of the others here might even recognize his exact species, which could also be a boon to us. [Probably not, since he's a numbered item, but who knows?]

Right. [a nod, as he's thinking about those magic locks] Though... what do moths eat?

Flower nectar, I believe. [Franciscus waves at the garden.] I hope the garden's stock will be sufficient for that, but I may just have to confirm with the stewards that they will provide.

[a slow blink]

Flower nectar? Like bees? [HE HAD NO IDEA]

Ohhhh...! [Krone steps off the dummy entirely, though still holding the sword.] Well, I'd be glad to offer whatever insights I can from other experience... [She takes another step closer to get a closer look.] They don't swing any other way, do they? Just the same way as regular blades attached to your head? And furthermore, mostly growing from behind, your own motions become difficult to track with your eyes... Yes, I can really see why you wouldn't use this at all, without practice beforehand.
