THE SECOND TRIAL

THE SECOND TRIAL

[Soon after the finals clues are found, there is a beep on everyone's watch. Then, the Conductor's voice echoes through the jail once more.]

Attention. All passengers of the Eventide, please come to the building in the courtyard. If you are not a passenger, you must have a ticket to enter.

[A ticket? Oh boy. And everyone's suspicions are confirmed when they come to the courtyard and find people-many of them who had been fleeing the prison that very morning-queuing in line to enter the building. Not the Strangers-they are immediately escorted in.

They find themselves in a courtroom, with them sitting at podiums in the center. Above them in the ceiling is a retractable dome; all around on the walls are large screens, so people can watch the proceedings no matter their location. People are filing in, even as a recorded voice drones that the jail isn't responsible for lives lost during the trial-or the sentencing.

Hm.

Lilac is in the judge's seat, the pangolin in her hands. Nearby, the captured animals-sans the rabbit, for some reason, and the sheep-are inside another pen that has been set up. The force field seems to have been quickly erected. After announcing the court proceedings and registering her right to magistrate, as she did the previous week, she clears her throat.]

THE WATCHFUL
THE CAVIAN
THE BRITTLE
THE FORLORN
THE ENGINEER
You all know what you must do. You have your evidence, and you must decided who is responsible. Remember-every vote counts. And...just pretend you're alone again, if it helps, I suppose.

[There's not much else to do. There is the option to ask for the concessions they are selling to everyone, though its mostly water and popcorn. Otherwise, you are once again on a time limit. This time, the audience is watching. Their eyes stare hungrily at every action.

The trial for the murder of Atsushi Nakajima, the Rushlight, has begun..]

[He hisses in pain as the blade slices into his fingers and wraps the other hand around Zack's wrist, trying to twist it in order to get him to drop the knife.]
zackthekiller: (DANGER! DANGER!)

Ngh! LET ME GO!

[He's clearly in pain as he struggles against Caleb, getting himself nicked in the process. The knife goes through the bandages and breaks the skin, but he hasn't punctured any vitals...]

Drop the knife and I will. Honestly I don't care if you drop it in me, just let it go.

[He doesn't want to drop it. He isn't listening to a word anyone says. He is a ball of pure heartache and rage that attempts to yank his arm away again. It gets dangerously close to Caleb's chest--]

Enough.

[Suddenly, as fast as lightning again, the Conductor is there, a faint blue glow around her. With unnatural quickness, she proceeds to grab the knife with such force around the blade that there was no way she wasn't getting cut in her palm. Indeed, her hand, and the cuff of her sleeve, starts to turn red.

However, the move is enough to wrest the knife from Zack.]

[He lets go as he sees the conductor reaching for it, but doesn't move away. Once it's gone, however, he lets go of Zack and turns around, heading back towards his podium and holding his palm up so he doesn't drip blood all over the floor. He gets a feeling he'd be in trouble if he did.]
zackthekiller: (broken bones and blood clots)

AAAAAUGH!

[He stumbles as the blur of blue yanks the knife out of his hands.

You know how much that hurts your hand when that much force is applied that fast?]

[She knows.

Soon enough she is sliding something out of her other sleeve and pressing buttons on it.]

I do not enjoy having to do this, but if you will not stop--

[Enjoy having your cuff's magnetosphere function on, Zack, until you can calm the hell down.

You're not moving for the foreseeable future.]

zackthekiller: (I'm painfully so worried about Ray)

[Great, now he can't move.

He struggles against the restraints, but it's no use. He can only go to the end of his proverbial chain and bark.]

Damn you... GOD DAMN YOU, ASSHOLES!

[If any living being needed a docility chip, it would be this guy.]

[She ignores the audience clapping her actions.]

Do you really think acting like an animal and screaming threats is going to save anyone? You only make yourself look a fool.

[She then leans in and lowers her voice, so only he can hear. She looks at him as she speaks.]

You may not be able to save her and I am hardly the one who you care to have give any comfort. I don't even know if my words will even reach you. But if she is your sister, I should hope that she would want you to live. The fact she refused to let you take blame seems to point that way.

Dying for the already-damned will not save them. But you can fight to keep their memory alive.

. . .

[He may or may not remember that, but he's clearly heard that..

He just doesn't know what to do anymore.]
