WEEK 4

WEEK 4

[After the meeting, Lilac gives everyone a small vial of something red. Those who left the meeting receive it from the rats on the crew. She gives instructions as to how to take it. Take in a drink, preferably tea. Drink it slowly. Make sure you can get to your bed once you finish. The headache will come quickly.

Nevertheless, even as everyone slips into sleep, they are visited once more by the Conductor in what must have been a dream. Or was it? It's not clear.

She is quiet as she speaks, looking out the windows, even though the view is obscured by the glass.

"I know you think me as a monster. Maybe I am after all these years. I have no illusions. But I cannot regret the things I've done.

"Nor can I regret the Bazaar...it was so wonderful. It opened my eyes to the truth of things and opened doors I never could have seen on my own. It was the first time I felt true love for another. I wasn't the only one-my daughter, too, passed through the Wicket. Saw the sea more sunless within the Bazaar's body. Learned as I learned. She sought to rival me in symbols, in marking skin."

She closes her eyes.

"She is dead now, of course. Everyone I knew in the Neath-on our Earth-is. Well. Almost everyone. London endures, naturally. But the Echo Bazaar...it's beautiful promise...it's gone. The Seventh City will never fall, and it's Message will forever remain undelivered. Of all the creatures in the universe who might remember it, I am alone in honoring it.

"Perhaps it's noble. Perhaps it's foolish. In any case, maybe it doesn't matter. Maybe it's the thought that's important. As long as I am here, there is yet a possibility that the deed may be finished, somehow.

"Still, I wonder. Maybe you have the answer.

What happens to a Message, when neither the sender and receiver exist anymore?"

As the day dawns, everyone wakes up to the sound of howling winds and darkness. Their head hurts, but they do have a new memory to accompany the ache. They are also at a new port. It is a dark place, teetering on the edge of safe space and the unknown in between void, where those who enter rarely return. Or, so you have to assume, right? Either way, that blackness on the deep horizon doesn't look particularly fun to try to drive through.

There is a legitimate fear in Lilac's expression that betrays her for the first time, as she lets everyone disembark, including the unicorn and the young man, who quickly jump onto another train to get away from this place. She also refuses to leave the train. She does leave you with a fair warning.

The Synod of Carcels is dangerous, in its own way, and everyone can feel it. Everyone can feel something hanging in the air. It's not natural. It's bending reality. It's also not something that started with you or your arrival. Yet it threatens to become that way, to become part of you. You can feel the temptation gnaw at you. You can hear the winds whisper of it. There is a hunger here-and knowledge as well.

The question, of course, is whether the price to uncover those things is worth it-and what will be found here with the price that is paid. But as the Conductor said-a reckoning cannot be postponed. Not forever.

There are eleven strangers left in this place.]

[These are all very strong reasons to search, so it's unsurprising that this would resonate with someone or something yet unknown to him. And yet, surprise is just what the voice on the wind expresses.]

OMG! [each letter painstakingly spoken out loud.] Look at what you found... and who is this? [oddly enough, it doesn't sound like this is being addressed to Mithos. It's talking near him.

At the dog?? Yep, that seems to be the case. It's asking the dog who he is.]

[ Mithos tilts his head when he hears the voice. Okay that's ... weird. Friender barks something in response, but since Mithos isn't sure if this ... voice can understand dog-- ]

That's ... Friender.

[ He ... doesn't know what else to say. ]
7_0_7: (How… how… how…)

[personal profile] 7_0_7 2019-08-06 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh... Is that right? Friender, really? But I was actually asking 'Friender' who you-

[He sounds amused, but then the voice makes a surprised noise at the bark.]

Uwah... they disabled your voice functions, huh? So cruel and unjust...!

[ Mithos just ... gets even more confused. ]

Do you ... know Friender?

[ Meanwhile Friender gives the voice another bark. Yes they disabled his voice functions?? ]
7_0_7: (Beep beep.)

[personal profile] 7_0_7 2019-08-06 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm..... you could say that... I know his creator very well?

And I know that Friender could have told you his entire backstory if they let him! This is pretty unsafe actually, how will he alert everyone when he's about to turn on the flamethrower?
eternaldivide: (ᴏᴄᴇᴀɴ ᴏꜰ ᴛʜᴇ ꜰᴏʀᴇsᴛ)

[personal profile] eternaldivide 2019-08-06 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Ah ... So who am I speaking to?

[ Might as well get that question out there. Also how many owners has this dog had now that he's thinking about it. ]

They took away his ability to speak ... I wasn't aware that Friender had the ability to use a flamethrower, either. ... Though I guess it wouldn't have been wise to do so on a train.
7_0_7: (Can I really enter your world?)

spoilers for mystic messenger

Maybe not, but it's good for defense! Why not see if it still works? Never know if you'll run into trouble.

Anyway, you can call me Luciel... and Friender's creator's name is Saeyoung. He made this robot dog for his beloved while he was worrying himself sick over her. Not sure what they called it though.

You may wonder why I'm telling you so much detail, but! It so happens that I've been looking for those guys for a while. Their whole world disappeared from under my nose, and it wasn't even the Noise.

[personal profile] eternaldivide 2019-08-06 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
... Good point. Considering all that has happened, it'd be wise for me to know and keep Friender with me.

[ Just in case. ]

Hmm. I see. Well, if you don't know his actual name I hope you don't mind that his name stays as Friender for the time being. It's ... the name that was given to him by a ... friend of mine. Before he was unfortunately killed.

[ Mithos tilts his head once again ]

Their whole world disappeared? What exactly is the Noise? Do they have something to do with the Wefts or Weftlanders?

[personal profile] 7_0_7 2019-08-06 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I guarantee the dog will not mind! [both in terms of flamethrowing and being called any particular name. He's going to move on to the more serious topic now.]

Noise, to make a long story short, are an invisible threat to the multiverse that my associates are containing - only a few people can detect them like me, but where you are seems clear, so that's all good!

I have nooo idea what a weft or a weftlander is, but it might be alien speak for something I'd understand! What do you know about them?
eternaldivide: (ᴀɴᴅ ᴍᴏᴠᴇ ᴀʜᴇᴀᴅ)

[personal profile] eternaldivide 2019-08-08 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He's going to have to test Friender's flamethrower at least. But later yes, time for the serious part of their conversation. ]

An invisible threat? Well, it's good then, that there are people like you around to detect and contain it.

Wefts and Weftlanders ... they're both things I've learned while looking into the places we've visited while on the train. Wefts seem to be ... pieces of land that were somehow transferred into the place we found them in. And Weftlanders are people who don't come from that world. So ... like us, I believe.
7_0_7: (This will all disappear.)

[personal profile] 7_0_7 2019-08-09 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I see... and yet I don't! Noise don't have the ability to do that. They can erase pieces of a world while they're in it, or even the entire world, but there's no way they could move bits of it around to other worlds! They're not powerful enough... even angels aren't. Whatever the problem is there, it started on a God level. That's what I have to guess!

[He sounds fairly cheerful about this horrific revelation, but that doesn't last one minute, so it was probably phony.]

If that robot is there, pieces of Saeyoung's world must have ended up there too.... smashed up like cookie crumbles? Just like that? Argh!

[There's a pause as the voice attempts to regain its composure. He let something slip there... sigh.]

I've never met any God, even with what I am. Hope I'm wrong.
