There was no sugarcoating it anymore. This was a critical time. Saving all of the vines is paramount, but what does one do when the blight hits? It keeps encroaching on the grapes, day by day. Entire clusters, entire bunches, dead and rotting, while allowing the blight to spread, and the leading botanists and viticulturists cannot identify the origin or the cause. They can't even successfully isolate the culprit in their labs; it seems to disappear like air no matter the precautions taken.
It is a catastrophe that seems to be beyond science, and it will result in the complete collapse of the entire country's wine industry. Already, embargoes on this year's crop have forced other grape-growers to close shop for the year after they'd sold their previous stock; it is all too possible that no grapes might ever be grown here again if a cure cannot be found. The tourists have stopped coming. The towns have grown silent.
You, meanwhile, are devastated. With the way your business is going, it will be on the brink of bankruptcy within the year. You will soon have no choice but to close shop and let every grapevine die, let the land go fallow. There must be a cure for this, there must be. Yet everything that can go wrong is.
Then, as you watch the news, it happens. Breaking news. The blight has been found in another country.
It is a pandemic-and it is only getting worse.

Well. This is...what else can can anyone say? You all know the deal. You all know what situation you're in. All that is left is to figure out what you can do about it. If there's anything that can be done.
You still feel that compulsion to distrust. To know you cannot win. To know that only the hosts have your best interests in mind. It would be easy to just do all that. But would it be the right thing to do? You can't be completely sure. Indeed, nothing is certain here, except for that damned ticking sound. If only you could stop it.
But you can't stop it. It is inevitable.

[Of course Karma doesn't know how King's world is yet, but they can talk later!
Yup! Last time it was a cat, this time a goose! Because apparently I have to deal with these things all the time!
[The goose, noticing Karma's attempts, honks at him, only barely keeping the feather in it's mouth, before turning and running away, a bit faster now that it has an actual challenge.]

[ At least when it came to the things that came out of the vending machine anyway. He does have something he wants to ask King about later, in any case. ]
You just can't catch a break, apparently.
[ Letting off a small laugh, he just raised an eyebrow as he watched the goose run away from the two of them now. That had been something, hadn't it? ]
Tenacious thing, ain't he? [ Karma rolled up his sleeves as he made to run after it, using a lot of speed while already figuring out what they could do next. ] If it doesn't give up, i'd say cornering it would be a good idea.
no subject
And no, I can't.
[He'd almost laugh if it weren't so painfully true.
That plan may not even be necessary. Karma is able to catch up to the goose quite easily, at least as it's running.
But now it's starting to flap it's wings, wanting to get out of here quicker than before.]
I don't suppose you got flight as power, did you?
no subject
[ Oh. Well that seems like a logical thing to do by any animal's standpoint, right? Either way it's time to act quickly. ]
Afraid not, but I'm sure we can take care of this before it actually takes off.
[ Karma takes a half second to assess things, using a burst of speed to get in front of it. Trying to cause something of a distraction and maybe King may be able to strike if he catches onto what he's trying to do, but just in case? ]
If it's so keen to get away, we could always find something to use to take it out of the air and use it as food if it wants to keep being stubborn.

The goose, meanwhile, is surprised at the sight of Karma speeding up. Apparently it's used to humans not walking as fast. And the threats are definitely keeping his attention.
Indeed, the distraction works, and before the goose can get to far away, King jumps and grabs it by a webbed foot.
He didn't take momentum into account, however, and so the two go towards the ground, tumble a bit, and end up disoriented...though with King on top of the goose, keeping him pinned down.]
Did I win?
[Hi various planets, why are you orbiting his head?]
no subject
I believe so.
[ He blinked as he caught sight of the feather which had fallen out of the goose's beak amidst the tumble and picked it up. ]
Got this back, so... definitely a win.
no subject
[He shakes his head rapidly, trying to get rid of the disorientation in his head, and seemingly succeeding. He jumps to his feet and starts putting some distance between him and the goose before it starts going again.]
Any chance it’s yours and I won’t have to find out who’s it is?
no subject
That'd be too easy. Unfortunately it's not mine so you really will just have to go and ask someone who owns something like this.
[ That's about where he held it out for King. ]
Looks like something out of a video game.
no subject
It sure does.
[There’s a honk as the goose gets back to it’s feet, turning to the two of them. Realizing that it’s outnumbered, though, it honks at them, turns tail and starts waddling away.]
Should we worry about that thing?
[Who knows what it’s planning...]
