WEEK 3

[It has begun. With the death of the Spinner and the execution of the Indulgent, they remaining Titled will be plagued once more by vivid dreams. And just as last week, they are awoken by the sounds of doors creaking open.

Just like last week. But no one had died last week. Right? No one had been subjected to that...thing.

And yet the strange, cold feeling of foreboding remains. And it is certainly most worrisome to those living in rooms 3, 4, 6, and 15. Those who pass by room 7 and 8 will feel that same, worrisome feeling of foreboding as well.

What will they wake up to find? Who knows, now. If dragons are real, anything is possible.

I think I'd get a headache. Why do people read this stuff, anyways?

I dunno why most people like that sort of thing, but...it's different. It's nothing like life at the Institute, and it's nice to read about stuff I could never actually experience.

[Well, when he puts it like that, she can kind of understand wanting to experience things outside of your own narrow worldview. While she might've shrugged the notion off a few months prior, she gets it now. Still.]

It's more fun actually going out and seeing things for yourself, though. Preferably with friends.

[He sits down heavily at the table.]

It must be nice, getting to go wherever you want and have friends and stuff.

[She's not the best at empathy, but the way he looks right now... it looks a little lonely, and she's not entirely unfamiliar with that feeling herself.]

Are you not allowed to go out or something?

[He shakes his head.]

We URTVs were only allowed to leave the Institute to fight in wars. And now...I remember we didn't go back there after fighting in the Miltian Conflict, but all I remember after that is so out of context I don't know what to think about it.

[Well, she knows what it's like to go run around and fight in wars and other missions, but she's had far more freedom for sure.]

That sucks. But if you didn't go back, then that just means you must've ended up leaving somehow. You could travel around after that.

Me and Nigredo were rescued from the battlefield after... [He stares at the floor.] After the rest of the URTVs got infected and died. I dunno where we went after that, but apparently I'm in charge of a ship called the Durandal now, and I'm part of something called the Kukai Foundation. That's all I can remember.

So you're missing a lot of important stuff too.

[Going from disposable(?) soldier to ship captain was definitely a big jump, that's for sure.]

That means you might just be waiting on memories of travelling around, then. Especially if you were on a ship.

Maybe. It was a battleship, so I'm still a soldier, but...a lot felt different. It's really confusing.

I still don't know where I got this earring or the tattoo on my ankle, either.

[Well apparently what better thing to do with confused kids than headpat them? Someone's gotta take up the mantle since Rean's not here.]

I guess that's something else to look forward to remembering.

[Well, he's still wearing the earring, so he probably doesn't think it looks stupid? But why do people keep doing that? He shakes his head in response to the headpat.]

You mean something to look forward to remembering at all...my first memory was confusing, and my second...

But right, he totally flipped out yesterday, huh... So that was because of a memory?]

They can't all be bad. [...] ...Probably.

I don't know...it's hard to imagine anything good coming from the aftermath of Miltia.

[For a bit, she just kind of stands there without saying anything. She doesn't really know how to deal with these situations, after all; no one taught her how to give words of comfort. But she'll try, at least, in her own way.]

...For a long time, I was alone. I just spent days wandering around barren battlefields and scorched fields. One day I got picked up by the Boss, and everyone else in Zephyr was a family to me from then on.

It was nice for a time. We had a rivalry with another mercenary group though, and the Boss died then in a duel with their leader. Then everyone in Zephyr also went their own ways... and I was left alone again.

But... I was able to find a new family. Maybe it's different, but I think you found a place too.

[...Sigh. Rean really rubbed off on her, didn't he.]

Maybe...I do remember chaos apparently stuck around after he rescued us. The latest thing I remember, it seemed like we were friends.
