Alright, you don't seem to get what I'm saying here, so I'll just spell it out. Why would anyone whipping from behind aim for the head? It's not a bashing weapon, the skull is thick. It would make more sense to go for the legs, unless the killer is really short.

Jonathan was about ready to kill whoever killed his wife, was blinded by tears, and was experienced with a whip, probably enough that he'd think he could get a blow to the head to knock them out or something. Pardon me for thinking it was a plan that didn't end well.

And you're not answering my second point. Pretty much anyone could've lost hair there, maybe not even from stress. Jonathan might've ripped their hair our with the whip.
