[The first sensation you feel is a headache. It's brief, slicing, sharp. It passes soon after you wake up, but it is there nevertheless, and the pain is not easily forgotten. Perhaps your eyes also blur as if roused from a deep sleep; perhaps your tongue also feels off, like you swallowed a bug. It's not pleasant.
More unpleasant, though, is the second sensation that dawns on you all-this is not your bed. This, in fact, is unrecognizable. It is not anywhere you recall coming to, willingly or otherwise. It's a room with a bunk, and there is a strange smell in the air that is hard to ignore.
No, you are no longer home. Any possessions you may have had on you are gone, save your clothing and a strange watch you can't get off, no matter how hard you try. And when you run into the hallway, well-you might find yourself running into others who might be just as confused and scared as you are as the area around you slowly sways, up and down, left and right.
What is this place? Why are you here? Who are all these other people?
What is going on?]
A New Way of Life
Suddenly, every television screen turns to static. If you're not near a television, one lowers in your location with a strange schlorping sound. After some flickering, the image adjusts, and there, in the center, is a figure. In one hand is a cane; the other is a coin.
When the stranger speaks, its clear the voice has been digitally altered.]
Good evening. I am Zero. I do hope you are all comfortable. What I am about to say will be...brief.
Life...is unfair. That is the one constant. The smallest event can change a world on a butterfly's wings; a snail in your path can just as easily end it. Such may be your fate, and the fate of this world as well.
But it has been decided to give you a...chance.
[They hold the coin up.]
Tails, you are sent back. You return to your lives as if nothing happened, and this...will be little more than a bad dream. Heads, on the other hand, keeps you here, and you will have no choice but the play the Game.
Well. We shall see.
[They flip the coin. It flies in the air, landing neatly in the palm of the figure's hand. It's hard to tell what kind of coin it is being used in the feed, but the way that "Zero" hums, it's clear.
It has landed on heads.]
Fate has spoken. You must play. It has been called many things...Nonary, Decision...all lead in some way to a single, bloody conclusion. Thus, I welcome you to the newest iteration of the Game. The objective is simple: escape the HMHS Gigantic. The means to succeed in this endeavor...will test you all.
I have sent you all the rules of the Game. If you have any questions...I suggest you ask them now. I will not communicate with you again outside of emergencies and...other pertinent instances.
[The feed flickers.
Guess if there's ever going to be a time to confront their captor, it's now.]

He just looks...defeated.
And then he asks--]
...Why us? Why us, in particular? What are you hoping to gain from this? There's no theme to the people you collected - we're all different ages, from different places, there's...no gain to this.
Is that just because of 'fate', too? Did you get a list and just--underline names?
Or...why?

You're right, life is unfair. But it also offers up a choice on whether to live or die. Survival of the fittest-- you either live, or you get selected out.
Glad to see that you recognize that much.

This is a trap. You introduce the possibility of five X-passes off the Gigantic, so your intention is clear: to lure ten of us into killing or being killed, so that the remainder may use the ten and five X-passes as the fifteen needed to escape.
Do you deny this?

Fifteen, as I said, is a minimum.

When he talks, it's with an almost cold voice.]
So, that is the game, is it? Murder, a trial, and punishment, all meted out by the watches on our wrists. All for the hope of escape, in a game we are forced to play at the whims of fate.
[He pauses, then sighs.]
I give you a C+. You're lacking on your presentation.
