THE THIRD TRIAL

THE THIRD TRIAL
(~SK. 17-18)

[When the investigation ends, the D O N G rings throughout the ship, followed by Zero's voice.]

It is time. Everyone, come to the theater. Time is...wasting.

[And so it is. The seating has once more changed to reflect the fallen-Moriarty and now Brain's podiums are draped in black. And, of course, there is no food-

The screens come up, and the mask of Zero appears, ever inscrutable. Their instructions are brief.]

Your Brain is gone, I'm afraid. Cut into pieces and cast aside...and someone here knows why. Now, it's time for you to discover the truth as well...if you can.

[The trial for the murder of Brain, the Blue, has begun.]

I found a few things as well.

[Out on his podium come his clues.]

This... pen [or well, marker, but Hubert doesn't know what that is] of some sort was still hot when I arrived, and melted beyond use. I also found a book from the Lounge that had been cut apart. Said cut pieces have been used at least in these tattered papers and in construction of a note of some sort... spelling my name in particular.

[Hermes scratches at one of his front legs, Stop itching!]

Um... That's a marker, not a pen.

Yeah, instead of the ink going through a small hole, the ink gores through a felt tip. And there's lots of different colors they can be! Like red or green or blue or yellow! I like to use markers instead of pens for my shipping wall.

...ah. I see.

[That makes sense for why it's so weird and bulky]

Do you think someone was attempting to implicate you for Brain's murder then, Hubert? I also believe they were going about it in that way as to conceal their handwriting so it couldn't be checked when we came to trial today.

[ It's just a guess but it seems plausible to him. ]

After Moriarty's trial I would not be surprised if the handwriting is exactly the case.

As for myself... I can not say for sure. If they were I feel they could have done something less... obtuse?

I must agree. To mutilate a perfectly good book to do that just seems unreasonable, but someone deemed it necessary just to avoid writing anything out.

[ Won't someone think of the poor, innocent books?? ]

It's quite dramatic.

Wait, your name?

[ This makes Aoi angry, and it shows. ]

[personal profile] pegasinister 2023-07-08 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed.

[He holds it out for him to see]
jinglebros: (We were bold and young)

[personal profile] jinglebros 2023-07-08 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[ That sure is his name right there. ]

Okay, if you don't make whoever did this suffer, I will.
superstylishsquid: (Huh?)

I didn't smell anything like burnt marker in the oven, so either someone put it in the incinerator, or there was some other source of heat involved.

[personal profile] pegasinister 2023-07-08 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
We certainly have enough burns going around this case that it could be anything.
superstylishsquid: (Oh yeah...)

[personal profile] superstylishsquid 2023-07-08 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. You didn't say you found a note on it, but that doesn't mean there wasn't one that was already discharged into someone else.
pegasinister: (2)

[personal profile] pegasinister 2023-07-08 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. It was still hot to the touch so whatever hit it was certainly dangerous, if it was the incinerator outright.
superstylishsquid: (Huh?)

[personal profile] superstylishsquid 2023-07-08 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the same for the leg I found, but wasn't the time of death like...one in the morning?
pegasinister: (25)

[personal profile] pegasinister 2023-07-08 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
So those two must have still been under heat until very shortly before we arrived.
superstylishsquid: (I don't know what to make of it.)

[personal profile] superstylishsquid 2023-07-08 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. The oven was still hot, too, like it'd been turned off within the past hour. Even the kitchen was warmer than it usually is.
pegasinister: (12)

[personal profile] pegasinister 2023-07-08 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Our culprit was cutting it close. Perhaps they spent that much time setting up the scene...?
superstylishsquid: (Huh?)

[personal profile] superstylishsquid 2023-07-08 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Could be. I can't imagine it's easy to cut limbs off of a body swinging freely like that...
