FINAL INVESTIGATION
[Fifteen X-Passes. Six weeks. Freedom at last.
But it's not the end. Of course it's not. There are questions to answer, and souls to save. And now that the group is outside, they can see where they are.
They are inside a massive cavern, illuminated in an eerie green light, standing on a stone path. On one side is the ship-or rather, a massive, ship-shaped tangle of bloody branches, the trunk-like roots snaking out and into the river its buoyed on, as well as into the ceiling of stalactites. Said river is wine dark, but it's clearly not water. No-it is blood.
And on the other side of their little pathway? A root-encrusted palace. It sits over a labyrinthine city, bathed in emerald, and all is eerily silent save for some sounds coming from within the castle. It's clear the infestation somehow started here. And it is here that answers are likely to be found.
The doors are right in front of the group-and they are already open, covered in branches. From the outside, it seems little more than a ruin. Once everyone goes in, though?
It's even worse. The tree has taken over. Whatever lives here is no longer in charge. There's no easy way to disentangle the Qilphoth from this place. But there is life here, somehow. You can see figures entangled within the roots as you explore. And-they are still, somehow, alive. More than alive. They are beings that bleed ichor instead of blood-beings of incredible divinity and power. They are gods. And they are hostage to the tree, forever and ever, trapped in induced ennui, unless something is done.

[Once you enter, the investigation shall begin.
Good luck.]
((OoC: And here are team assignments!))

I missed you, too.
[And then she smiles, sweetly, teasing.]
But I'm still keeping the jacket.
[She is wearing it still. A little piece of him to carry.]
no subject
That's fine. That's yours now.
[He's not at all bothered. What's his is hers.]
Not like I can wear it right now anyway...hopefully when we beat this dumb tree we can find a way for me to get my body back. Or a new one. Or something.

...Are we just gonna talk to him? I've never spoken to, like, an actual god before.
no subject
It seems like....
Haven't you see the people who are here? Most of their blood... it's golden. That's the color of ichor.... Hades might be one of them. So I don't know if he could help, but... if we could free him and his house, then he might be grateful enough to grant a boon.
no subject
But you probably know more than me. I'll do what I can to help, even if I'm limited like this...

Hades is the God of the Underworld, after all. So it really does seem like the most sensible boon he might be able to grant would be... allowing a few people to escape his realm.
It's not something he usually lets happen, at least according to the stories, but if we were able to do something like this for him... who knows.
no subject
...Do we also have any idea who that might be? We probably should make sure they can't pull this shit ever again.
no subject
Sorry.
Zack has some kind of connection, I think, but....
Maybe we can find out something more here?
no subject
[huh.]
Okay. We'll work together here. I'm with you. Let's investigate!

He seemed normal, more or less, I guess. But... there's a lot that's not normal about him, and the longer we knew him....
He also never changed. It was... a little eerie, honestly. Like maybe he'd been possessed....
But there were a lot of things that seemed to connect to him, and a lot of them....
I don't know what he is, exactly, but... I think, maybe, he belongs here. Where we are, I mean.

[UWAH. SCARY. He has not factored in that he is, also, technically a ghost who belongs here for the time being.]

He... never seemed to learn more, either. Than he knew to start.
NOT HERE
