THE THIRD TRIAL

[Once the final clues are found, the unsettling chimes sound three times again. However, the Debate Hall doors do not open for the Titled. At least, not for a moment or so.

When they do, though, and the Titled descend the stairs, they will find that the desks have been completely updated, up through the deaths of the previous night. It is...unsettling. Have they truly lost half their numbers in such a short time? But, what can they do about it?


The logs are on the desks, and the Intercessor finishes up the final touches of the evidence they made, placing it on the desks.

There is no chanting on the stage. The dragon, also, seems to be gone, leaving only traces of arms and legs and goo. So, the Intercessor simply goes and sits on the stairs, looking at the remaining survivors. They sound tired as they speak.]

Did you check her for her keys?

Not really. I looked over for anything that seemed unusual, but I wasn't thinking about her key. Why?

Her door wasn't locked. Wasn't sure if it was like the first time where someone took it or she just didn't bother.

Dammit, that is a good question...nobody we know was involved was in any shape to go rooting around in someone's room.

Yup. But there were some things I found there, like her sword and a weird note.

[Both of which she'll dump at her seat??]

Her sword...lemme see that.

[Going to take a look at it. Does it look like it would match Raph's wounds?]

[Nope! No match on the sword!]

Not it...I don't suppose anyone else found a blade lying around?

Huh? [Eric's surprised that even Raph's sword wasn't it.]

T-There aren't any others on the evidence list...

That's why I'm not hoping. But that leaves us without a murder weapon...which means the culprit must've hidden it pretty well. Maybe even left it in their own room.

Would we have any way of checking if it was that...

Not really. I kinda doubt the assholes behind this are going to let us go back to do a room search.

[He looks resigned at that.]

Then there's no point in guessing based on people's abilities either... You remember the last case.

Yeah. Normally I'd say it would have to be someone tall enough to reach Raph's upper back, but there's still people here with powers we don't know. For all we know, someone here can float.

We can't even really be sure it was one of us, at this point.

We at least had a couple of hints about Babette. Is there anyone else that we know about being here?

There's the bitch who killed McBurn, assuming she didn't bail when everything stopped getting replaced and cleaned up...

[He needs to stop and think about that.

She definitely seemed to have stabbed him, though.]

Sounds uncomfortably plausible, doesn't it? She stabbed Alexis, I can say that much for sure. And after what we pulled last week, I wouldn't be surprised if they were pissed enough to set us up a rigged case.

[It does make a lot of sense. He feels a bit fired up about it too - it's easier to believe that then one of the Titled did it.]

Well, if it IS her, then she must be in this room again...!

[He looks over at Fie, a bit hastily.]

But I doubt she'd reveal herself as easily as Babette did. If we wanna be sure, we'll have to prove it couldn't have been any of us...

Then... what about comparing any other weapons that are here?

...There might have been a chance that the culprit was injured too, between two victims and a berserker.

Maybe, but I doubt anyone would be dumb enough to bring a murder weapon to a trial.

Injuries, though...I've really got my doubts all of that blood was Maglor's. Healing potions make it possible any wounds are already healed, but it's worth checking.

[Too bad McBurn died last week...for reasons.]

It's not like there's any shortage of swords here.

[Although... she'll look around to check if any other people aside from Jr. and herself brought a sword to the trial.]

That's true but... something just feels off about that.
