WAKE UP TIME

WAKE UP TIME

[The first thing you feel when you wake up is...nothing.

You don't feel much different at all when you wake up, no doubt from a very pleasant sleep, even if you may not remember what you dreamed of. If anything, you would have thought it was another normal day.

That thought would have vanished the moment you took in your surroundings. This is not your bed, this is definitely not your bedroom, and well, this is definitely not your home. In fact, this place isn't anywhere you've been before.

Before you can question anything much further, your cell phone starts beeping, flashing a message on the screen for a good several minutes, before flashing your profile, also for a few minutes. Yes, now you have a Title, and a power, even if you've never had one before. And yes, you have a cell phone. Even if you didn't have one, and don't know what the hell a cell phone is. You get the feeling you'll need to keep it on you.

The profile fades back to the home page of your phone - don't worry, you can still access your profile, and everyone else's, on that little lime icon if you really want - even though you have so many questions now. (The help button may... attempt to be helpful in that case.) Where the hell are you? Why do you have a Title? And can you get out?

Perhaps, if you're strong enough. But, in any case.

Welcome, Titled.

There are fifteen strangers in this place.]

Oh? I mean, you're damn right, Rome wasn't built in a day. So you think there might be some type of evidence lying around? [Dio is leaning in, outright intrigued at this point.] If you end up finding any, I'd kill to see it. Uh, of course I know we were talking about how it would be hard to decide who to share it with... [That's the part of the sentence that needed correcting.] Just saying, color me interested.

I think it's close to unavoidable. To error is not just human. I've found it rather universal.

[It's fiiiine, Kurama's closest friend threatens to kill him on a regular basis. He isn't going to fuss about a turn of phrase. He smiles, even, very faint and maybe a touch sly.]

I'll keep your interest in mind. Don't worry. I might not share plans freely but information already found I likely will. I imagine the closer we get to something useful, the more nervous it will make our infiltrators. If they get nervous enough to slip up...

That's the rub, I guess. They catch you finding something interesting, covering it up could cause more problems for them than it solves. Can't say I haven't been there. In a way.

Well, I can't say I found anything much so far. Walls are pretty solid.

Not a quandary I will regret putting them in, I think. Our infiltrators will no doubt have motives of their own, but I'm going to put the well-being of actual allies first.

Yes... As are the ones around the bedrooms. They're soundproof, which I found interesting when you consider that they look like cubicles.
notgentle: (Accept)

Oh? I hadn't noticed the soundproof thing, actually, but, makes sense. It was nice and quiet in there. Do you think they're made of the same stuff? I don't know how much it helps us to know that the other walls are soundproof, since that just tells us what we don't know about what's going on outside, but it might be easier to do something about our own bedroom walls than the ones all the way over there.

It's not impossible. Particularly since the phones open them, which I think would imply they were directly installed by our captors rather than an original part of the mall.
notgentle: (Confusion)

[personal profile] notgentle 2017-11-29 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't think that they built the whole mall themselves from scratch?

[Maybe it's just his pretty limited examination thus far, but apparently the disparity of styles hadn't stuck out to Dio.]

I don't get it. If they can make walls, why wouldn't they just make a whole building? Instead they use one with all this cutesy crap lying around? What does it have to do with their death game?
byanyother_name: (Well...)

[personal profile] byanyother_name 2017-11-30 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
Why bother? It would no doubt be quicker and easier to appropriate one and make adjustments.

[Kurama can't really help seeing a pretty big disparity between a translucent barrier of force and what mostly looks like a pretty normal mall.]

Ideally, those walls take too much of some resource for them to waste on creating the entire building from them. They may simply not feel like using the time or effort it would take on people they expect to mostly be dead soon. It might even be the result of some odd personality quirk. Not enough information yet, I'm afraid.

Hmmmm. Okay, if there were this building already, then that would obviously be easier. But then what happened to the people who already owned it? Did they just go, "yeah, sure, have fun"? And why would nobody notice or care that a lot of people were being brought in? If this were an actual store area at some point, there's got to be living areas around it where the customers come from.
byanyother_name: (There is ONE thing...)

[personal profile] byanyother_name 2017-12-01 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
Not...necessarily. I was discussing with someone else the prospect that we may actually come from entirely different worlds. The differences are too profound to ignore.

And so if we've been transported into a universe none of us are native to, there may not be anyone. Something could have wiped out whoever used to live here.
