WAKE UP TIME

[The first thing you feel when you wake up is...nothing.

You don't feel much different at all when you wake up, no doubt from a very pleasant sleep, even if you may not remember what you dreamed of. If anything, you would have thought it was another normal day.

That thought would have vanished the moment you took in your surroundings. This is not your bed, this is definitely not your bedroom, and well, this is definitely not your home. In fact, this place isn't anywhere you've been before.

Before you can question anything much further, your cell phone starts beeping, flashing a message on the screen for a good several minutes, before flashing your profile, also for a few minutes. Yes, now you have a Title, and a power, even if you've never had one before. And yes, you have a cell phone. Even if you didn't have one, and don't know what the hell a cell phone is. You get the feeling you'll need to keep it on you.

The profile fades back to the home page of your phone - don't worry, you can still access your profile, and everyone else's, on that little lime icon if you really want - even though you have so many questions now. (The help button may... attempt to be helpful in that case.) Where the hell are you? Why do you have a Title? And can you get out?

Perhaps, if you're strong enough. But, in any case.

[ He nods. ]

I talked to her, as well. [ He lowers his gaze. ]

I can't imagine all of us, except for the people from the same world, having a different idea of what the world is... [ "Unless" hangs in the air, but he's dropping that for now. ] ... Apparently, they're able to take powers as well.

[ NOT THAT HE HAS PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THAT...??? ]

Assuming Callistis-san is being honest, they were able to take away her magic powers.

They're able to grant them, as well. I had her demonstrate her new ability as proof.

[He stands up from petting the cat, earning him a plaintive meow.]

By the way, how do you like your coffee, Kurusu-kun?

[ He nods. ]

I haven't tried mine out, though I am curious to see everyone else's.

[ That meow has him glancing down to give the cat a small smile; he leans down to pick it up. Which is apparently appreciated, since the cat starts purring after he starts petting it.

There's a soft, thoughtful frown at the question. ]

I actually don't have a favorite. I remember slowly working on trying all of the blends at the cafe... [ The frown deepens a bit and his petting slows to a stop... He wants to remember how he even began learning how he became decent enough at making coffee... ] I do like how you take yours.

[ He'd wanted to see what had the detective getting the same thing every visit. ]

Very well.

[He holds out both hands to show them empty, then holds one out palm flat before holding the other to block it from view. A second later, he pulls the concealing hand back with a flourish and holds out a cup of coffee in the formerly empty hand.]

Ta da! As gratitude for all the times you and Boss have served me such delicious coffee.

[ His eyebrows are lifting at that... ... everything, actually.

Then, he's actually brightening up a little as he gives a quiet laugh at just how elaborate that was. He reaches out to take the cup, a small smile lingering for a moment.

And even the cat is curious enough to lean just close enough to sniff at the cup, though it leans away, clearly not interested in trying it. Akira, on the other hand, is going to take a sip.

His eyebrows lift as he lowers the cup. ]

Impressive... [ A look of gratitude is given. ] Thank you.

[ ... not just for the coffee, but what is fully expressing things. ]

You're very welcome. I'm glad I could at least manage to lift your spirits a little.

[And that little bit of showing off has helped his mood, too. He's still tired, but...it's easier to deal with when you're in a better mood.]

[ He glances at the floor in thought, but doesn't hesitate to shake his head. ]

More than a little.

[ ... He hasn't forgotten the suspicion that had been hovering around him back home, but it's obvious that Akechi has good intentions here and now. Besides, there's also the matter of the somewhat... confusingly strong bond he feels.

Maybe it's something to do with the memory gaps, but those are thoughts for when he's alone with his thoughts. ]

The coffee's great, but the thought behind it means more. [ The ghost of a smirk. ] Unless you really were only using me for my skills.

Ah, you've figured me out. I approach you so frequently on the train station in the hopes that you'll have fresh coffee waiting for me after school.

[He gives Akira a teasing grin and playful chuckle.]

[ A dramatic expression of utter crushing disappointment appears on his face. ]

Guess that means you're gonna abandon me for your own powers, unless I hurry to find something else useful.

[But the expression cracks, a quiet laugh slipping out. Honestly, he might be latching onto this moment a little more than he normally would -- it's actually more for Akechi than for himself, but he can't deny it isn't helping him as well? ]

[Noooo, don't make that face! ...Okay, it's a little overdramatic for him to see it as anything but funny, so maybe do make that face?]

I suppose you'll just have to rely more on your ability to provide good company and conversation, from now on.

[ His eyebrows lift a bit, as he gives a falsely surprised expression. ]

Wow... good company and good for conversations? [ A small grin. ] Keep up this flattery, and you might just make me blush, detective.

What, the infamously composed Kurusu-kun, blushing? I might have to keep it up just for the chance to witness such a rare event.

Hmmm... I'm not so sure it'd be worth all the effort, Akechi-san.

[ The face of innocence. ]

I'm infamous for a reason, after all.

[Have a finger wag, Akira.]

Ah, but that just makes it a challenge. The difficulty makes victory all the more satisfying.

[ His head is tilting as though out of curiosity, that "innocence" lingers in his expression. If not for that glint entering his eyes, this expression could almost be believable. ]

If I didn't know any better, I'd think you're declaring war, here.

You make it sound like a threat, rather than a harmless game between friends.

[Because normal, platonic friends make games out of trying to make each other blush, right?]

[ Akira's just going to need to. Put a little more glue under this straight-faced mask he's wearing. ]

"Threat" is such a harsh word, detective.

[ A thoughtful hum as he studies Akechi's face, hand lifting to rest on his chin in a way that the other teen should find... oh-so-familiar. ]

We could just skip to the end and refer to it as "The Defeat of Goro Akechi," if you like.

[ Ah what's this? A moment that could possibly be made better and sounds absolutely perfect to intervene on? Well. It's been decided.

So without much hesitation, Karma speaks up from where he'd been nearby. Having come up a little bit ago and found this interesting on it's own. ]

You should totally go for it. The winner should ask for a kiss, don't you think?

[ He is ALL smiles right now. ]

Unless you both don't think you're actually up to it. Which would really be a shame.

[He's just about to give Akira a retort, when Karma picks the perfect time to interrupt. Whatever he was about to say catches in his throat as he blushes and turns to glare at the relative newcomer.]

What sort of wager is that?!

[ His eyebrows actually lift at that suggestion, and then his eyes shift from the redhead back to Akechi.

The ghost of a smirk surfaces, only to fade away into something more resembling pure surprise at that blush... and that incredibly powerful question. He's never seen Akechi react this strongly??

Huh.

Well.

How 'bout that.

His hand shifts to cover his mouth in the most discreet way he can manage, covering the way the corners of his lips are lifting. He should probably reassure Akechi that it was clearly just a joke. He should probably do what he can to diffuse the situation, and yet... instead? He's lowering his hand, face right back to calm and casual. His hands slide right into his pockets as he cocks his head to the side. ]

Is that a forfeit?

[ What a lovely set of reactions!

Karma's definitely glad he spoke up now, unphased by Akechi's glare as he focused more on the reaction he got from Akira. Totally going to cross his arms over his chest, almost grinning like the cat who ate the canary. ]

That would be a shame if it was. Thought there was more of a fight in you than that, detective.
