Maybe starting at the wedding apparel section then working up to other parts of Yotsukoshi

[ Ren had spent some of the last money he had on the cheapest boba tea he could find, so that's some tapioca for you right there, Akechi.

He stares at the wedding apparel, looking a bit annoyed. ]

Kind of pointless to offer us a prize in exchange when most of this stuff is already probably more expensive.

[ It's just a net loss either way, which is why he's skipping that. ]

[Oh good, he'll be taking note of that. That's another $50...]

Not all of it. It doesn't necessarily have to be for the bride or groom, right?

[He walks over to one of the racks, marked for groomsmen, and pulls out a suit that apparently costs $42.

The reward for that one is $500, I believe?

You've got a point there, but some of us haven't exactly got a lot left to begin with.

[ He spent a lot of his starting $100 on food for the cats and clean underwear. ]

Yeah. Seems like all the nigh-impossible ones are.

Have you checked your account yet? You ought to have at least $50 now, for the tapioca in that tea. The amounts are added as we accomplish the tasks.

Ah, and my birthday is June 2, so that should give you another $50, if you haven't gotten that one yet.

[ Guess who still doesn't know how to do all the things on his phone. This old guy. ]

Mine's November 20, if you still needed that.

But as long as we're here...

[ He's going to try some suit jackets, now. ]

[Yep, time for a clothes shopping montage. Luckily, Akechi's a fairly average size by American standards, even if he's tall for being from Japan, so it doesn't take him too long to find one in the right size.]

Hmm...yes, this one seems to fit quite well...

[ Ren, meanwhile, is a bit tiny, so he's going to have some problems.

Look, there's a reason he has to get most of his clothes altered. His height notwithstanding, he's a skinny guy who doesn't have much muscle tone. ]

[Once he pays for the suit and gets his beautiful $500, he notices that Ren is still searching.]

You do realize it would likely still count if the clothing was altered to fit, right?

Have you seen any sewing supplies here?

[ Just sayin'. ]

[foolishjustice]

Actually, I do seem to recall seeing them somewhere. Just a moment.

[He disappears into another section of the store, and returns several minutes later with a pack of needles and a spool of thread.]

This is the extent of what I could find, but it should work well enough.

[steelmagnolias]

[ Great, he'll pay for the suit as soon as he can and bring it back over. ]

I have a little experience with working on my own clothes, but it's going to be a lot faster with two of us.

[foolishjustice]

It's been some time since I've done much in the way of sewing, but I do have a steady hand. Just please stand as still as you can, I wouldn't want to accidentally sew the suit onto you.

[...That's a joke. He hopes the lack of seriousness in his delivery makes that clear.]

It wouldn't be the first time it happened.

[ He gives a flippant sort of gesture, but it did actually happen. ]

[He's...not going to ask. He'll just thread one of his newly acquired needles and get to work making adjustments. He'll...try not to let his mind wander too much during the tedious bits, though Ren might have to suffer a poke or two because Akechi wasn't paying close enough attention to what he was doing.]

[ And a while later, looks like it...mostly fits! ]

...okay, I can't thank you enough for that.

[ He's probably gonna stash this in his closet for a while, but ]

[It seems like just the act of thanking him has him quite pleased already, since he answers with a cheerful smile.]

It's quite alright. The more difficult items are worth large sums, so I'm simply happy I could be of help with one.

Should we get moving, then?

[ He looks around Yotsukoshi, and there's two places he has in mind, either the gardening section if Akechi wants to figure out her favorite thing, or the novelty weapon section. ]

That seems wise, I believe I've seen lawn segments in the gardening section.

[steelmagnolias]

Alright, let's go.


[ Aaaaaand hopped over to the gardening section! He'll get to that sod in a moment, but he gets distracted by some flowers in little plastic containers.

Sorry, Akechi, he'll look over there to touch a petal, just for a moment. ]

[foolishjustice]

[He notices that distraction. It catches his attention for two reasons: 1) he's naturally curious, and 2) that sure seems like the behavior of someone who really likes something. So don't mind him walking over to take a look.]

Does that flower have some sort of significance to you?

[steelmagnolias]

[ It's a couple of buckets filled with camellia plants. ]

Sort of.

[ Oh Akechi, had you only known...

His response is curt, as if to say "you're not wrong, but you have not unlocked enough backstory to hear why." ]

Ah...

[A moment's hesitation, then:]

Is it something you're particularly fond of, perhaps?

[steelmagnolias]

More than anything else in this place.

[ Even the whiskey!

Here, go touch it. He'll go to that grass section over there. ]

[foolishjustice]

[He's not sure just touching the container will work, so he'll briefly brush a gloved fingertip over the petals before following to the lawn area.]

Actually, that reminds me. Have you had the opportunity to touch someone else's favored item yet?
