THE THIRD TRIAL

THE THIRD TRIAL

[It happens again, like clockwork. Once the final clues have happened, the elevator in the food court opens with a DING. It doesn't leave until everyone has gotten on, and the thought occurs to everyone that they shouldn't waste time.

An innocent man was ruthlessly murdered, after all. After everything that's happened.

Just as before, everyone who is still alive will find their favorite food and drink at their platform. And just as before, Akechi, Helena and Ren's platforms have now been lowered and covered with a white cloth, joining the increasing number of dead spaces in the trial area. Helena's platform, however, has an addition not present on any other deceased's platform: a single white lily, placed almost reverently on top.

Well. Whatever reason that lily is there, it shouldn't detract from the fact that there is a trial to be had here, once more. Its time to look at the evidence at hand, and to hopefully find whoever did this heinous crime.

So, it's time, Titled.

The trial for the murder of Ren Sanzashi, The Doorframe, has begun.]

The cigarettes, what kind were they? Self-rolled? Pre-bought? It would change a lot of things.

Actually, I brought them with me in case this was asked since I am no expert in cigarettes.

[Loewe pulls out two rolled up napkins. One contains the pack with the non-poisoned cigarettes. The other contains the poisoned ones.]

You don't want to smoke these ones. [Pointing to the poisoned ones that also have a distinct bitter smell to them.] The ones in the pack don't appear to have any poison.

... Could the killer have rolled some cigarettes and slipped them into the pack with the others? If Ren was drunk, he wouldn't really think to look at them, would he?

While that is possible, what strikes me as odd is that he didn't even notice the difference in taste and smell. The ashes alone were incredibly strong smelling and potentially lethal and he got it in a much more direct manner.

I hate to say it, but maybe he was too inebriated to be bothered by it? In lieu of that, the only other option that makes sense is that he did it to himself...

The thing is, there isn't any evidence that shows he was excessively inebriated. Or does maybe a half a glass of whiskey cause that? I wouldn't know, since I can't get drunk.

Do we have any way of telling how much he had to drink?

That'd probably require some chemistry...was he drinking at the party? I didn't notice.

I do recall him bringing alcohol. I brought some tea and other things, but I don't remember if I saw him imbibing or not...

He seemed kinda drunk to me... not, like, wasted, but...

[Enough that awareness could be at least somewhat impaired? Yep.]

Not that I haven't already personally checked.
