[Well, this is...happening. This is a thing. This is your life now. The Commander is expecting you to just up and kill one another, and then try to get away with it. No big deal, right? You guys can handle this. You won't fall for what she has. She's clearly an idiot. A loud idiot, but still an idiot. She's not going to get one over you.

...Right?

In any case, the Commander's quarters are now open for anyone who decides they can actually stand to be in the same room as her, but beware - any favor you might ask of her is going to come at a price, and who knows what she'll ask you to do if you decide to gain a boon from her. Unless you're a suck-up like Baku - then she'll apparently be flattered. Maybe that's a good tactic to use?

[It's been a couple days. Nagisa has poked around the station a bit, but largely kept to his room. He's seemed pretty cheerful and unflappable while out and about....in private is a different story, and he's maybe sticking to in private a little more than someone of his disposition would be expected to. The early part of today is no different, but he can easily be found loitering around the door for a bit, as if unsure he's ready to be up and at 'em yet.

Later, however, he's yoinked some of that dot matrix paper and sat down in the library and gotten hard at work doing....something. Whatever he's doing, it takes a lot more writing than reading any of the books he's got next to him. Actually, it's highly probable he's doing multiple things.

Once he's done with his papers and books, Nagisa's next stop is the kitchen. He's busy in there, but he doesn't seem to be cooking? He's got some of those papers from earlier, too, and still has some blank paper and a pen... Kid's got projects today.]

[Angela is just here in the kitchen almost done gathering some spicy rations to combine with spaghetti cooking when she finally notices Nagisa.

Seriously, another little kid? Where do they come from!

I don't appreciate your tone... but actually, that's a good question. Did you hear him come in?

Hell no.

Then just how long has he been here without getting food? We gotta do something!

She leans over the counter towards him. At least since she wears her bedsheet chiton instead of the space suit it is easy for her to get on tiptoes for such an angle.]

Hey there! I was just about to make something, you want to share?

[He seems to be in good spirits, and he has a couple of things in-hand that he's in the process of putting back...]

If it's not too much trouble. I'm almost done with this. [Whatever 'this' is it evidently involves moving things and leaving paper around?]

Okey-dokey. Hope you don't mind spaghetti napolitana.

[Gathers a couple more supplies to make sure the second portion will work... She's curious about his activities but wants to get it all set up before saying another sentence]

Not at all. Thank you... Napoli-san, right? [He'll eat pretty much anything, and one glance at what's available here wiped away any hope of his favorite. He's prepared!

So he'll continue pulling things out and putting them back and generally leaving paper around - but organized-like, he's not making a mess.]

You got it! Najisa! Er, is it Naggisa?

[She's doing her best. If only Yuna were here to help her out. Well, she's got the big load into the pot now, so now she's leaning over to peek at some of those papers.]

Nagisa. It's okay, Japanese isn't very easy for Westerners to figure out. [The whole lack of emphasis thing. And no schwas, that's always a difficult thing...

As for his papers, he appears to be making labels! And instructions. Boy's setting up this kitchen so it's easier to figure out your way around the rations and space food without like...already knowing. Like Nagisa apparently does.]

Thanks for understanding; I've been in Tokyo but it's sooooooo cosmopolitan... [MAYBE WHEN THIS IS ALL OVER SHE CAN SEE THE BOYS' HOMETOWNS OR WHATEVER

I'm not surprised, since it's Tokyo. They'd have to cater to tourists a bit. [Just by sheer bulk.]

Though...this kitchen's stock is a little more obscure than just a foreign language...

[She adjusts the heat on the stove or whatever and then leans down even closer next to him.]

Anything that really stands out to you?

It's almost all military rations and slightly less-than-modern space food. ...Both are honestly better than most people think.

[He knows what he's doing though so he may as well make what he can a little more accessible to the laymen!]

[WHY DOES THIS KID KNOW SO MUCH ABOUT BOTH OF THOSE THINGS]

Oh, yeah? Are they organic?

I...don't think so? Maybe some but probably not... [Since they're government-issued bulk kinds of things, they're probably made for a specific intersection of cheap and effective.]

Both are more about function than flavor, but it's not like you'd want troops to throw away their emergency rations before they'd eat them...

Oh... [She still doesn't really understand how they're better than you'd think, then.] Are soldiers just better at putting up with unflavorful things?

No, well, maybe. They don't have a lot of options and usually do get enough activity that a lot of things would taste good, but I meant more like....most people assume rations and space fooddon't taste very good. They'e a lot more like normal food than people think, though.

Huh. I mean, to me if you can't lift out all the strands in 3D and blow the steam everywhere, it's not really the same, even if it fills you up and tastes nice.

...speaking of which!

[Jumping over to the pot of spaghetti, it seems to finally be done! Draining the water with a big flourish. She likes making big impacts on objects.]

Probably not. I bet it makes it better when they get to have it that way.

[Nagisa went to space once, he can attest to earth food tasting better right after he got back.

He'll let her have her fun serving the spaghetti. Why do anything if you can't have some fun with it?]

[She uses a fork to dish it all out onto two plates - it wasn't a terribly large pot, so as to boil faster - in big spirals. A nostalgic smile splits her face.]

You know what would be nice right about now? Real butter cut into roses like at restaurants.

I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant fancy enough to do that... [It sounds like a more western thing??? Maybe??? Napoli...it sounds like an Italian name. No wonder she's fond of pasta, then.]

[Man, in the context of her eventually hearing that Nagisa's mom drugged him, Nagisa's lack of fancy restaurant experience despite his classy demeanor is going to worry Angela. For now she nods indulgently at Nagisa's acceptance.]

[She's sitting down now to eat her own pasta.] I guess noodles are served with soup more in Japan. What kind of stuff do you like to put on that?

Ramen comes with all kinds of toppings. You can't really go wrong with pork or seaweed, and sometimes butter is added to make the broth richer.

Ah... I guess in America, you mostly think of instant ramen, don't you?
