WEEK 1

WEEK 1

[Well, this is...happening. This is a thing. This is your life now. The Commander is expecting you to just up and kill one another, and then try to get away with it. No big deal, right? You guys can handle this. You won't fall for what she has. She's clearly an idiot. A loud idiot, but still an idiot. She's not going to get one over you.

...Right?

In any case, the Commander's quarters are now open for anyone who decides they can actually stand to be in the same room as her, but beware - any favor you might ask of her is going to come at a price, and who knows what she'll ask you to do if you decide to gain a boon from her. Unless you're a suck-up like Baku - then she'll apparently be flattered. Maybe that's a good tactic to use?

Whatever you do, try not to murder the bread again. The Bread Did Nothing Wrong.

There are fifteen strangers in this place.]

I know I've forgotten someone important, someone who stayed by my side despite all my efforts to push him away, but....

[It's strange that he don't mind telling her. Maybe because she's neither mocked him nor pressured him into opening up. Besides, he might feel like he owes her something for her singing, and this is all he has to offer.]

I can't remember his name, his face, his voice. I only remember that we're part of the same... traveling group.

I've been hearing others say that they have forgotten things too. If that was done by our captors, then don't blame yourself. You'll remember in time, but it may only be when they allow it.

What's the point of taking pieces of our memories, though? Is it just one more thing to hold over our heads? And what kind of sorcery did they use? I've never heard of magic that could do this, certainly not with such precision.

I know I remember reading of such a thing in the news. There were a few rather interesting crimes committed in one place and while the culprits were all different, they all had a few things in common. One was that the crime was very unlike them. The other was that they couldn't remember anything related to their crimes. Quite fascinating, isn't it?

As if they were being controlled somehow, in addition to the memory loss....

[He knows what power the masterminds of this game have given him. He knows everyone else can see the information, too. He knows it will place suspicion on him should anything go awry. Is she implying that she doesn't trust him?]

[Don't forget that her power is being immune to everyone else's powers. Whether she trusts or not, at least he can't control her.]

It's not impossible, or maybe the one behind it was able to convince them in a more mundane way and just wanted to ensure they wouldn't be caught. It makes you wonder if maybe we have met the one behind this and were just made to forget it as well.

[Maybe he can't control her, but he could control someone else to cause her harm. That's enough reason to distrust him Yes, he always thinks of the worst-case scenarios, it's ingrained in him through his profession.]

The idea that our memories can be manipulated at all is frightening enough, yet we have the evidence that it's happened to us. It's not a power I could see ever being used for anything but evil.

I could see it being used for good. What if someone had something horrifying happen to them and taking away that memory could help them? Not forced upon them, of course, unless the trauma is so severe that they could die without that intervention.
