...we came in?

POOR UNFORTUNATE SOULS

[There's no doubt that those who wake up will vaguely remember a dream.

In that dream, at least for most people, there are two figures, informing them each that they had a Title. With that title came a power. More than that, they were being given rooms, as if they were meant to stay in the dark and gloomy place where their dreams placed them. The Strangers might have found this to be a ridiculous proposition. Unless they have been through this before, then were probably not surprised in the least.

All of this, of course, ended with a sense of inexplicable dread for everyone. Especially when they woke up to find themselves in long, thin, cramped rooms, with only candlelight to give them any illumination.

Yes. Unfortunately, that dream had not been a dream at all, much as you might have hoped. You are here, now, inside an old, decrepit house where you have been given what appears to be a permanent residency. While you apparently have a power to aid you, it's no comfort. You have no option to leave, you have no way to escape, and the rules hammered to your door doesn't help the creeping sense of doom pooling in your stomach.

...

Now.

Where are those two figures that had greeted you to begin with?]

What is?

[Krone has been walking through the garden and just now catching sight of the other person. She walks over, trying to take his attitude in.]

It's not really a free place to enjoy nature, but calling the entire concept of a courtyard ironic would be going a little far, no?

Ah, of course not. I meant more the fact that there are sunflowers here, while this place gives the impression it's hardly ever seen the sun.

Well, that's certainly quite poetic.

[She holds the smile for a second.]

Perhaps they're kept as some kind of forecast? They'll turn to face any gap in the clouds that comes along.

[He brushes his fingers along the petal of one sunflower, looking thoughtful.] Perhaps. Or planted by someone who hopes for the sun to come.

You're a remarkably philosophical person.

[Her eyes are trained right on him.]

If you told me your name, would I get to hear an etymology lesson?

Franciscus Erkens. Though I confess I have no particular desire to follow in the exact footsteps of the saint by that name.

[Krone math lady memes for a second before offering her hand to shake.]

Kroné Robinson. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance.

[He shakes as well.] And the same to you. Though I do wish it would have been under better circumstances than this.

[She smiles, openly bitter, but, like, in a friendly way.]

Don't we all!

[Handshake complete, she folds her hands behind her back and swivels her head around at the view of the garden again.]

Any other part of the circumstances catch your eye? Say. That you think I might not already know about.

It appears the medieval appearance of this place is not just for show, or at least it's a more historically accurate reenactment than most. There are no signs of modern plumbing-[He wrinkles his nose slightly.]-or even modern games in the game room. The cleaning supplies, the instruments, even the weapons-none of them are modern. Though I cannot be certain they are all from the same actual era.

[A very slight sympathetic narrowing of her eyes at that one point in the middle. Krone tries very hard to endure many conditions without outward complaint but that is definitely one where the enduring is conscious effort.]

I don't exactly have textbooks on hand... Couldn't that just as easily be a pragmatic measure, though? This is clearly an isolated area where our kidnapping hasn't attracted heaps of attention. Construction with simple materials would almost make sense in that situation.

[Practically everyone is united in their dislike of the latrines.]

Hm...if it was just the construction, perhaps. But it feels far less pragmatic to also bring in historically accurate weapons and instruments of torture. The weapons seem like they have not been maintained, but on the other hand the instruments I've tested can certainly still play.
