...we came in?

POOR UNFORTUNATE SOULS

[There's no doubt that those who wake up will vaguely remember a dream.

In that dream, at least for most people, there are two figures, informing them each that they had a Title. With that title came a power. More than that, they were being given rooms, as if they were meant to stay in the dark and gloomy place where their dreams placed them. The Strangers might have found this to be a ridiculous proposition. Unless they have been through this before, then were probably not surprised in the least.

All of this, of course, ended with a sense of inexplicable dread for everyone. Especially when they woke up to find themselves in long, thin, cramped rooms, with only candlelight to give them any illumination.

Yes. Unfortunately, that dream had not been a dream at all, much as you might have hoped. You are here, now, inside an old, decrepit house where you have been given what appears to be a permanent residency. While you apparently have a power to aid you, it's no comfort. You have no option to leave, you have no way to escape, and the rules hammered to your door doesn't help the creeping sense of doom pooling in your stomach.

...

Now.

Where are those two figures that had greeted you to begin with?]

Outside the bedrooms

[Some time after Eric's percussive entrance: there is a young woman in distress. That frightened tone just rips into his heart... this bears investigation, even if he can't help so much as he'd like to.]

Miss, I fear we're all lost here, but I at least mean you no harm.

[He looks where she's looking, then, and at the realization that it's some sort of list he walks a bit closer without thinking.]

What in the world...?

[Emma jumps a little at the voice, putting a hand to her chest in fright and turning to Eric abruptly. Still, she seems to calm down quickly enough at the sight of a presumably friendly face. His voice is comforting enough, if nothing else.]

A-ah... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to worry anyone, it's just... well, if you're lost, as well, I'm sure you can imagine, yes?

[She'll step aside to let him examine the list, turning her gaze to it with her eyebrows deeply knit in worry.]

They make it sound like we're prisoners, but why...? This is like no place in the Empire I know of, so I can't imagine this is the work of the Noble Alliance...

[Considering everything, she wouldn't be strictly surprised to have been captured, but this is just...]

I'm sorry. I do understand being shaken by... all this.

[He nods back towards cell room 11 and gestures at its distinct lack of a door, and the debris that was one.]

I myself panicked. There's no shame in that, I think.

[There are at least a few Empires still extant in his world, but "the Noble Alliance" rings no bells. He shakes his head slowly, pushing aside the unfamiliar phrases to focus on the most pressing issue.]

Prisoners expected to work and not be fed but one day a week, to address each other by titles nevertheless... it's madness. Like a child playing lord of the castle.

Ah, so you're the one who...

[Rest in pieces, door. We hardly knew ye. Still, she lets go of that fairly easily.]

Thank you, though, for your kind words. Even so... panic will do me no good, will it? If I hope to help anyone, my classmates or otherwise...

[She shakes her head. Perhaps it's better to focus on the rules. (It's a sad state of affairs when the rules are better.)]

Right... and keeping us in cells like coffins, treating us as lower than even the spiders that inhabit this place. It's hard to imagine anyone sinking so low...
