WEEK 3

[Well. Good morning, Strangers. When you wake up, you will realize two things.

The first is that something has changed with your memories. One of them is different from when you recall it being before. Clearer, more coherent, more...correct, somehow.

Could it have been an effect of what happened with the trial? You don't know. What you do know is that the staircase outside of the bedrooms has also changed-the way is no longer blocked. There is a new floor above to explore, now.

What do you do, now? Will you eat anything that had been offered by the Stewards, if you'd managed to snag some of it during the trial? Will you continue to dive into the mystery of this place? And if you do-how much more will it cost you?

There is, unfortunately, only one way to find out.

I'm sorry. I had no idea it was something so foul. I just... kind of assumed it would decompose back there. Or something.

It... it shouldn't be able to root itself in the latrines, right? And really, those smell foul enough as is, so...

The Yggdrasil Core - if we hadn't stopped it, it would've destroyed the entire continent.

[Just. Y'know. For extra motivation to GET RID OF THIS THING.]

I thought about that. Or maybe the game room, I don't think that place can get much worse.

I... I see. I'm sorry for being so reckless, then.

[Hmm... he has a point.]

That's true, but I think either room will wind up being used by necessity. Some of us still play the wheel game downstairs to get back some crucial items... I mean, that's how I wound up with this monstrosity.

The latrines won't be pleasant no matter what we do, we may as well keep the game room as pleasant as we can, all things considered.

There's no way you could've known what it is, so it's fine. Almost no one back home would, either.

Oh right, that thing... I thought maybe sealing it in the cauldron, since that might seal the smell, is too inorganic for anything bad to happen, and probably no one wants to touch it ever again, but...maybe the latrines really are the better option...

I wish we could just burn it, but I don't think that'd end well.

Do you think the cauldron would actually work? It... did very little for Mr. Kim's remains, after all, as much as I hate to bring that up again.

I dunno....but it's a start, right? It'd have to block some. And if we find a way to seal up the sides, even better.

[hexposition]

I... have a candle in my room. I don't know if it'll be enough, but maybe with Franciscus' help we could melt down the wax and use that as a seal around the lid?

[incendiarize]

That might work pretty well, actually! And no one wants to open the cauldron after this anyway, right? Two birds, one volt formula!

[That is not how that saying goes.]

[No it is not, but Emma laughs a little. It makes enough sense to her, at least!]

True enough! Well, now it's just a matter of seeing if we can find him, hm? I need to head up to my room to collect the candle, anyway. Perhaps we'll run into him on the way.

[And here comes Franciscus now, Hydrangea still sitting on his shoulder as always. He blinks when he sees Arthur carrying around the blob.]

What are you planning on doing with that?

[Speak of the devil!]

Ah! Franciscus! I was hoping to run into you.

[Emma clasps her hands together, pleadingly.]

This thing... it's evil, and we'd like to seal it off. We were planning to use the awful cauldron Mr. Kim was in... I received a candle early on in the week, we were hoping perhaps you could help us melt that wax and create a better seal upon it? We don't know if it's alive, but it shouldn't be able to take root in there even if it is.

...that seems like a good use of that tainted object, indeed. I actually received a candle as well-I can bring it here in case one is insufficient.

[incendiarize]

Let the cauldron do some good before it dies. The more solid we can make the seal, the better.

[And when they get out of there they can throw the whole awful thing in the ocean.]

[Franciscus nods.] It's a shame that we don't have any sort of tape available as well.

[incendiarize]

Tape? ...Maybe we could find a way to melt some metal and use that. Not much sturdier than that, right? Except like, Old World technology.

[silvertongueheir]

Soldering, you mean? That requires more precise temperature control and the proper type of metal, but I suppose we can look around. Let's start with the wax seal, though.

[hexposition]

It's probably the best we'll get for now until we can get some more supplies from the wheel.

I'll go collect my candle, then, and meet you both by the stairwell in just a moment!

[Gonna go do that. Maybe the eggnog scent will help with the blob, too?]

[incendiarize]

It takes more than just pouring melted metal in the seam?

[Basically, what they're gonna do with wax, but with metal, is what he had in mind.]

Right! We'll do what we can right now. And I'll see what I can get from the wheel soon, too.

I suppose a rougher method might also work, since there's no need to make the seal especially neat. Still, I'll retrieve the candle first.

[He'll show up at the stairwell with both a candle and a red cell phone-like object.]

I forgot about this with everything that happened last week, but is this yours, Emma?

[Emma didn't have much to grab, so she's already at the stairwell by the time Franciscus gets back. For anyone close enough, the candle she's holding smells vaguely sweet, like cinnamon and cloves.]

Ah!

[Her eyes widen at the red cell-phone like object.]

That's my ARCUS unit! Yes!

[She holds out her hands to take it back, if he'll hand it over.]

[He does hand it over quite carefully.] Millium showed me a similar item of hers before, and you mentioned the name of the academy written on it, so I figured it could only belong to you.

[Emma takes it, holding it to her chest for a moment before putting it carefully in a pocket.]

Thank you so much... even if I can't get it working, [spoilers, she won't be able to] it's a precious memento. I'm happy to see it safe.

We ought to go seal this core away, though, before we get further distracted.

[Franciscus nods.] Indeed, we should get that done first. [Now that he's sure Emma's put it away somewhere safe, he'll start heading in the direction of the ill-fated game room.]

[Emma's following along, but not before glancing back to make sure Arthur's following. Come! Let's seal this blob!]

[The blob-bearer follows, bearing the blob. The game room will be several kinds of cursed, but at least they'll have sealed off two of them! Arthur is uncharacteristically serious about this.]
