MOCK WEEK

[Awaken.

Fifteen strangers have been gathered to the Depths. When they awaken, they will feel nauseous in their stomachs. No doubt confused. Perhaps, even terrified. And certainly, there is a good reason for it - they are not where they were before. If they had powers back where they came from, they seem to be all gone. And it appears that someone has left...guidelines for them. Who? Its uncertain. So far, there seems to be no one else save for them in this hot and stuffy place. No...'intercessor' to be seen yet, certainly.

There are a few small graces for this group, at least. Their memories are intact. And, perhaps, they will discover the power that their Title brings to them. But these are only small graces.

So welcome.

I thought you might appreciate "interesting." It is your experiment, after all. Though someone able to reach into another world might already have what it takes to get their answer, depending.

[There is a pause, before they lean back in their chair.]

I'm afraid you are mistaken in your assumption. This is as much my experiment to run as it is yours.

Oh? That would explain the doors. Yet you certainly appear like your presumed employer. You were summoned for some purpose, but I doubt you'll give all the answers easily.

As I said, I am the Intercessor. I suppose you can say I am an intermediary between you and my...employers. I am the one who has been tasked to watch over you.

[A sip of broth.]

I of course am limited as to what I can tell you. You are correct, in this regard.

Perhaps a little of both. Some answers are unknown to me. Others are best left unknown to you.

So why uncover more worlds? That is, if all this talk of being from different ones is true. Of course, it's only a theory to the average person.

Simply a theory I've heard passed around. Most where I come from don't believe it to be possible, or see it only as an unprovable hypothesis, but there are enough inconsistencies in our stories that something must be going on. I try not to jump to conclusions.

If it were, humanity would be in worse straits than it already is. Simply an observation of your employer's behaviour.

It is what it is. Would you prefer a broader term that encompasses more than the dominant species, like "life?"

Good, so we're on the same page. I can't speak for the others, but this place... The technology levels intrigue me, let's say.

I am familiar enough with this and places like it. Some things are still beyond me, but...I wouldn't be the only one.
