Week 2

WEEK 2

[
It's been one week on the Gigantic
and it's clear that Zero
is a big dickzzzzzsht

A week has passed. However, there is no denying anymore that the power Zero possesses is very real. One person is already dead because of this, regardless of what, exactly, the Gimme's role in it was.

There is also no denying that the ship is somehow powered by blood, if not made of blood entirely. Why? How? And what do the clues uncovered in the previous week have to do with it?

The watches, meanwhile have not changed in any way. Everyone is still in their color groups. The doors to the next floor are still locked as well. Perhaps those are also murder dependent. Which is...also not good. But at least there's food and laundry down here, so...maybe it'll get boring eventually, but for now, infinite confinement on the bottom decks of the ship may not be so bad. right?

...Right?

There are currently 18 strangers on this ship.]

You're assuming that Zero knows someone will kill for this. It might also mean that Zero doesn't know as much about us as we think. Or maybe they don't care very much about if we play their game. Maybe this is all a social experiment.

There is a possibility that he thinks he does know. Zero could have a means of divining fate that he strongly believes in.
exequte: (well first I had to get some cash)

Maybe. There are many different kinds and examples of precognition, though they haven't always proven to be accurate.
onychomance: (You can't decline)

All that matters here is whether Zero believes in the accuracy of their prediction. I'm dead certain they at least believe in fate - they used that word multiple times while making their opening statement to us all.

We've been exposed to a great deal of extraordinary phenomena. The loss of our memories, the remaining memories that suggest different timelines, others who claim to have been able to see other timelines in their own right. Although the future is not set in stone, must always [acknowledging Akane's comment on precognition] be considered separate from the present, if we found evidence for some type of divination I would not dismiss it out of hand.

That said, I do not think Zero is one hundred percent sure in the way Kira-kun describes. I believe Zero is merely ninety-nine percent sure. Wasn't Zero going to... estimate... how much pain should be inflicted during the little exercise last week, if we truly all without exception defied the command?

[She smiles at Akane, puts her hand on the table kinda near Akane's hand.]

That one percent is what Zero fears the most. It is what we must become.

Believing in fate doesn't necessarily mean knowing everything about the future, though. One could believe that they are a chosen one, for whom luck will always be on their side.

[The coin toss he did got under Kira's skin a bit, you see...]

It is true he could have a more arbitrary belief. That could certainly allow for infinite confidence. But in my eyes that does not line up with the additional penalty. Why not demonstrate his confidence by allowing total abstinence to be a favorable outcome and demoralize us when it is not achieved?
onychomance: (To the sound of the beat yeah)

['Arbitrary', huh...?]

You may be right. Though, Zero's primary goal at the moment is still to entice someone in the group to make that very first kill, however nonsensical the approach was to this so-called motive. I can imagine how creating a number of wounded among us would service that goal better than toying with our psyches would.
