Week 2

WEEK 2

[
It's been one week on the Gigantic
and it's clear that Zero
is a big dickzzzzzsht

A week has passed. However, there is no denying anymore that the power Zero possesses is very real. One person is already dead because of this, regardless of what, exactly, the Gimme's role in it was.

There is also no denying that the ship is somehow powered by blood, if not made of blood entirely. Why? How? And what do the clues uncovered in the previous week have to do with it?

The watches, meanwhile have not changed in any way. Everyone is still in their color groups. The doors to the next floor are still locked as well. Perhaps those are also murder dependent. Which is...also not good. But at least there's food and laundry down here, so...maybe it'll get boring eventually, but for now, infinite confinement on the bottom decks of the ship may not be so bad. right?

...Right?

There are currently 18 strangers on this ship.]

I prefer suits myself as professional wear, but I have to make the most of this situation. We're doing laundry so many times in a row, too.

[So, sure, she's taking the thing. And standing there without facing him.]

You know, I'm a Devil Hunter. Would you rather understand that in more depth, or skip to any new information you may have heard about me from my doll?

[Eh, they can have a conversation without looking at each other, he's hardly insulted.]

I believe I would like to understand your job, if you don't mind.

[As her private business is her own, and he won't pry for now.]

[She's settled into her seat again with the goods now and so her gaze stops being so pointedly turned away, though still not direct.]

Well, Devils that I fight may be somewhat different from what you've expected. From talking with Roland-kun about the Christian mythos, it's actually rather fascinating to me that the art in our timelines seems to remain rather similar, even though our realities are so different. [yes this is a specific thought she has even before finding the art clue] There is the same myth - I use it in the academic sense, I hope you don't mind - [is Moriarty a Christian?] of a creator god assisted by angels in heaven, and Satan ruling over the torments of hell.

Instead, we see no signs of the forces of divine good, and are haunted by Devils each inspired by a concept. They're close-lipped, but it seems humanity's fear of the concept causes it to come into existence - so there are some very young devils such as the Gun Devil. Oh, when Devils are killed, they go to Hell, and when they die in Hell, they come to Earth. The Gun Devil is one that's so strong it's never been killed yet. With me so far?
hatesdeerstalkers: (hm...?)

oh my god this got hidden on me??

[This 'Hell' almost sounded like the Reverse Side of the World, where Fairies and other phantasmal beings resided, far away from Humanity and their laws.

However, it seems that it's not quite a perfect analogy, given that the Devils apparently can die in Hell and return right back to the top of the earth.

Either way, he nods.]

That I am - and you needn't worry about offending me, as I'm hardly religious. Please, continue.

I suppose you're a man of science. Nothing wrong with that either.

[She runs her hands over the T-shirt gently.]

You could say that Devils use blood as a sort of an energy meter. Some have abilities like generating weapons out of blood, but the main use is to heal themselves. The strongest ones can reappear within a few seconds with a completely regenerated form, without fully dying and going to hell. Flesh isn't as useful, but it's still edible, and there are some special cases where it has an effect. To this day we're not sure if Devils absolutely need these to live...

[Makima turns her head, articulating even more.]

Where I'm going with this is that they often kill humans, whether to eat them or perhaps to act out their concept in some other way. The cause of one in three deaths this decade is a Devil attack. If we ever get a proper library, I'd be curious to see whether other worlds have a significantly different population or somehow lost as many lives in intrahuman wars instead.

A man of mathmatics, Makima.

[He has to interrupt her for that, but he listens otherwise - Now they practically sound like Apostles or some phantasmal beasts, especially with their focus on blood.

He nods, giving a soft hum.]

I would be interested in such a thing as well - though most likely what you suggest at the end is what you'd find out would be the truth. The World has a way of making such things happen, even in a timeline where humanity's laws are not the guiding ones of the world.

[But that's getting into his own admittedly bonkers world, so he'll leave it at that.]

So the conservation of energy is of interest to you more as an equation?

[She's just sitting there thoughtfully thinking about what perspective the man might have to offer. Though in the end of course he has nothing to rely on but her narrative. She's got a lot of thoughts about exactly what laws guide her world, the landscape of fear that shapes humanity in its warped feedback loop.]

In my world, there's not really much in the way of magic or science fiction ray guns that humans can use to fight back. Devil Hunters often simply fight by making contracts with Devils. For example, there's a Fox Devil who will accept a small sacrifice like hair or a patch of skin, in order to eat the hunter's enemy. So ironically enough, Devil Hunters can't exactly exist without Devils.
