THE SECOND TRIAL

THE SECOND TRIAL
(~SK. 10-11)

[Once the investigation wraps up, Zero's voice emanates once more throughout the Gigantic. The doors to the theater on both the C Deck and D Deck open as he speaks. And yes, when people come in through the C Deck Doors, they will find they can access the lower level from the stairs.

Yay?]

It is time. Come to the theater.

I wouldn't worry about bringing blankets.

[And indeed, when the Strangers come into the theater, they will find that the room is considerably warmer compared to the rest of the ship. There are also changes to the podiums-John, Anya and Kaito's places are all draped in black.

The screens schlllorrrp back in, with Zero's face appearing after a moment of static.]

Of course I am here for any questions. But I believe you know how this goes, so I suggest you begin. Justice delayed is...justice denied.

[The trial for Kaito Momota, The High King, has begun.]

Hm. [Makima is in clothes BTW. She's no Val here.] The source of the red blood is quite troublesome. If the blood did not come from the walls or from Momota-kun, then it must have come from a culprit or double agent. Other than Moriarty-kun, who does have a reasonable explanation, we have no candidate for a person from whom the blood could have originated. I am beginning to wonder if the fabricator somehow planted it from a container (as we have in the kitchen) and has the container in their belongings. The food coloring came from a container that was left behind at the scene. But leaving the container of blood at the scene would ruin their entire tableau.

I believe that no one but Zack could have easily lifted the machine. The large number of objects included with the wedge makes me believe that it was planned in advance by the culprit, as I am not sure how the double agent could plan in advance that the crime would occur in the casino and prepare a wedge. Anya-chan's account was that she and the double agent had absolutely no interaction.

I see no flaws in that theory.

There's also one more thing that interests me. Zack-kun has the ability to mend broken items. And according to Zero, every single ability can evolve.

What would happen if his life were in danger...?

You think he might be eventually able to heal?

[He makes a strange expression at that, like he didn't consider it and is placing it carefully in his mind for later]

Anya-chan's evolved power is so radically different that I believe healing is possible, though not guaranteed

Though it is questionable whether he would need to heal were he in the role of the culprit. It seems that Momota-kun did not acquire defensive wounds.

So he was unable to defend himself.

With what we know, of those not completely removed form the pool, who would be able to make that kind of kill?

With his bravery, I find it rather hard to believe that he didn't so much as touch the culprit. Perhaps the culprit did it from a slight distance with the sword? I don't know where they could hide the sword.

I'd be willing to believe that the culprit healed the bruises, but Momota-kun does not seem to have made that kind of motion with his hands.

[...cause his hand was fucking broken.]

But you do you, Makima.]

[A shiver runs down her spine and she glances at Hermes.

He's supposed to get leverage on a slot machine? With those little arms of his? Perhaps if he craned his neck out of the way...?]

[Hermes notices Makima glance at him.]

Hm? Something up that you need me for?

[personal profile] yesorwoof 2023-07-01 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it's just... I was thinking about how I feel certain that the murder was performed by a human, or humanoid. I have a bit of a hunch from my experience hunting devils. But I'm not quite sure.

....honestly, I'm still surprised about that fact.

That the rest of us can't do it? My life would be much easier if I could.

...give me your hand. I'm just... wondering what might be under the culprit or fabricator's nails...

...Oh, ok.

[...we're examining. Hubert probably covered this but why not.]

[Zack has calluses. Probably from all his workouts or whatever. He also has small bits of pink them, but then again, he also lifted and carried the slot machine, so it's more than possible that's why.

Otherwise, his hands look normal. Nothing under the nails, no indication he scrubbed them overly clean or anything like that.]

Hm. It's about the same as Hubert-kun. I suppose this doesn't say much.
