THE THIRD TRIAL

THE THIRD TRIAL
(~SK. 17-18)

[When the investigation ends, the D O N G rings throughout the ship, followed by Zero's voice.]

It is time. Everyone, come to the theater. Time is...wasting.

[And so it is. The seating has once more changed to reflect the fallen-Moriarty and now Brain's podiums are draped in black. And, of course, there is no food-

The screens come up, and the mask of Zero appears, ever inscrutable. Their instructions are brief.]

Your Brain is gone, I'm afraid. Cut into pieces and cast aside...and someone here knows why. Now, it's time for you to discover the truth as well...if you can.

[The trial for the murder of Brain, the Blue, has begun.]

Why would he address it officially when he wanted it to be a secret to begin with? And why would I know what he's done to my loved ones when I'm stuck on this ship like you guys?

You gotta think.

Then perhaps you should have considered the threat against your loved ones unverifiable to begin with.

Then should we have all thought that last week? Not a bluff most people would risk calling just because it might be an empty threat.

I have memories of my niece being taken, remember? Of course I thought the threat was viable. I still do.

Not all purely verbal threats are hollow. Far from it, particularly when it's Zero.

I simply find it very strange that, from what I understand, Zero has had absolutely no reaction when Aoi-kun owned up to his actions. [In other words, it does not matter whether or not Ayame had already been kidnapped - it's that she hasn't heard about Ayame's status, even verbally, being changed after Aoi's confession.]

Might've expected our reactions to be enough punishment. And since she'd already been taken...consider that the threat was to raise her in a terrorism cult.

The threat is still viable. Interesting choice of words.

[...]

For the time being it's irrelevant.

I get the impression it's more like the threat was going to be carried out either way.

But yeah, the point is, I don't think Aoi has anything else to lose by not helping the culprit. Besides, it's entirely possible the culprit could've fabricated evidence themselves.
