THE THIRD TRIAL

THE THIRD TRIAL
(~SK. 17-18)

[When the investigation ends, the D O N G rings throughout the ship, followed by Zero's voice.]

It is time. Everyone, come to the theater. Time is...wasting.

[And so it is. The seating has once more changed to reflect the fallen-Moriarty and now Brain's podiums are draped in black. And, of course, there is no food-

The screens come up, and the mask of Zero appears, ever inscrutable. Their instructions are brief.]

Your Brain is gone, I'm afraid. Cut into pieces and cast aside...and someone here knows why. Now, it's time for you to discover the truth as well...if you can.

[The trial for the murder of Brain, the Blue, has begun.]

Would he have been able to use his powers when he was being hung?

... maybe that's why they tried to hang him. If his powers relied on being able to play that saxaphone, then stopping him from breathing would be a good way to extinguish that ability.

Very interesting. But it sounds a bit strange to me.

I believe in this case, first one would reduce his capacity by using the rope as a strangulation ligature. This would cause bruising. Then one would make sure he was completely dead by snapping his neck through the motion of the suspended noose.

If I understand the description of the bruises correctly, we see something different. Bruises that were caused by taking the corpse down, not prior strangulation ligature.

He most likely needed to breathe to do it. Perhaps it would be more precise to say that he was expressing his fear as the culprit was approaching him in the lounge and about to hang him.

Expressing or trying to dissuade the culprit with this change of emotion. Can we assume the purple note was deflected?

Yes, exactly - a fearful culprit may have been a more amenable one. There could have been a feedback loop. This might even explain the culprit's change of heart when taking him down...?

The culprit, influenced by the note, feared the consequences of their murder perhaps....
