SING, O GODDESS


[The place that Zagreus brings them to is an abandoned house. Like the rest of Greece, at first the grass and plants are dead, withered. But only at first.

As everyone files into the garden, it starts to slowly come to life. flowers begin to bloom. Fruits and vegetables start to sprout from the soil. The trees begin to grow once more. Wheat stalks slowly pop up out of the ground. Wherever this is, it's clear that life is returning-and the gods are awakening.

It's probably best that they don't return to the underworld, to the House of Hades-but, if anyone wishes to, Charon has arrived with the dead from the previous rounds-now alive-and little baby Ayame. If anyone wishes to go there-though, why would anyone ever willingly go back to the House, knowing you-know-who is probably awake by now?-they can.

But for those who stay here, there is food and drink, wine and bread, fresh meat and ripe crudités. Talk. Plot. Say your goodbyes before you are SHIFTed back to your homeworlds.

Who knows? Maybe there are still some surprises left to be had. But, either way...it is a good day. The new moon will pass. The sun will rise.

That's... [ Roland closed his eyes, humming softly. ] There was no way for you to have known about that at the time.

[ He crossed his arms over his chest, thinking back to some of the pieces making themselves known early on after their arrival. The reactions from both twins, then Alastor's had really leant well to the idea of who the witch in charge of this all could have been. ]

I know it may not be of much consolation but... at least you were able to make amends and see her off. You loved her and she loved you both dearly.

[A deep sigh.]

Hell, I didn't know anything about her past. She was just...a normal human woman, from what I knew. Anything fantastical was from my dad.

[At this, he takes out the Bangle of Time, turning it over.]

Hell, Umbra Witches were just rumors. Old tales. There were stories of...what? One, two that mighta popped up recently? But I never got a bead on whether they were true or not.

...I just...wish I'd had time to understand all that. But she died again for us.

I'd imagine she felt it was better if you didn't know there was anything special about her. She struck me as the kind of woman who wanted you to live good lives, believing you had at least one normal parent.

[ Granted it was mostly just a guess from what he'd seen of Eva but who could say truly if this was the case or not. His gaze fell to the bangle, looking quiet and a bit pensive. ]

I know. Everything happened so fast and time wasn't on our side.

[ A hand brushed against the cross at the end of his rosary. ]

If it had been within my power, I would have saved her or at the least...? Ensured her life could have been extended a little longer so you both could have spent more time with her.

A contract's a contract, you know? Only so many times you can use loopholes to get out of that kind of shit.
