WAKE UP TIME

[The first thing you feel when you wake up is...nothing.

You don't feel much different at all when you wake up, no doubt from a very pleasant sleep, even if you may not remember what you dreamed of. If anything, you would have thought it was another normal day.

That thought would have vanished the moment you took in your surroundings. This is not your bed, this is definitely not your bedroom, and well, this is definitely not your home. In fact, this place isn't anywhere you've been before.

Before you can question anything much further, your cell phone starts beeping, flashing a message on the screen for a good several minutes, before flashing your profile, also for a few minutes. Yes, now you have a Title, and a power, even if you've never had one before. And yes, you have a cell phone. Even if you didn't have one, and don't know what the hell a cell phone is. You get the feeling you'll need to keep it on you.

The profile fades back to the home page of your phone - don't worry, you can still access your profile, and everyone else's, on that little lime icon if you really want - even though you have so many questions now. (The help button may... attempt to be helpful in that case.) Where the hell are you? Why do you have a Title? And can you get out?

... The... what? That sounds vaguely magic-related, but I can't say it's something I've heard of before. That's a rather vague name.

How is it vague? Every disciple and teacher knows who God's Gift is.

[ She corrects, taking up the Teacherly Tone she so often has in class. ]

Aether is a sort of magic mist. But no, I'm afraid I can't say I'm familiar with the term. In fact, I've never even heard of the word God being used in such a context, outside of some religious witches or families. And most witches aren't very religious... we tend not to go very hand-in-hand with religion, hah.

[ But she doesn't want to argue, because she needs to find Wake! And Ursula said something much more interesting anyway. ]

... Yes, I'm a witch. I teach at a magic school, Luna Nova Academy. Magical Astrology, to be specific, perhaps you've heard of it?

[ Torri's happy to see the relief on Ursula's face! Looks like she did something good, which always makes her happy. ]

No, but I've only heard of Aterra Academy. I haven't heard of magical astrology either, I'm sorry. I'm only a first year—I want to learn all I can so I can make really good Star Children.

You can only create Star Children while you have a Star Brand, and that only lasts until you are eighteen years old. [ She holds up her right palm, which has a blue crest. ]

I'm sixteen, and I want to create all the Star Children I can in order to fight the dusk monsters.

E-excuse me?! W-what kind of ritual...? What monster...?!

Please tell me it doesn't involve... you know!

[ The blushing on her cheeks likely does not help matters at all. ]

You extend your hand to the other, and you think very, very, deeply about them. And then you... it's very special between the disciples involved, and then at the end a star child is born. [ Shyly looking away, it doesn't look like she wants to explain more than this. ]

... R-right... w-well. It wouldn't... be the first time magic has been used in odd ways to defeat problematic monsters, but... isn't that a bit much?!

[ A bit timidly she shifts her gaze back to Ursula, a hand in front of her mouth, her cheeks still tinged pink. ]

It does take a lot of effort and star energy, and I'm always tired after. But if it's to defeat the dusk monsters and to make Wake happy, I'll do anything.

T-the one you're looking for... is it a person, then? This Wake... God person? I think I saw his name on my... um, gosh what was it called, a cellphone, I think? ... S-sorry, I'm used to using crystal balls for online communication...

[ Oh! Her expression changes pretty instantly, a smile lighting up her face. ]

Yes, Wake is God's Gift. He's very special, he can make Star Children with all of the S-Rank female disciples, including me.

I certainly hope he's not going to be doing that here. Anyway, it would seem our normal... uh... powers are blocked as it is, so I doubt he could...

OK. [ She can do that, sure. She just really likes Wake a lot, and he's really fantastic in so many ways. But the mention of powers does distract her, thanks the Stars. ]

Is it like a Dusk Circle? [ Hmmm..... yeah she can't seem to get her star energy to focus like she normally can. ] Ah, this isn't good. Wake might be able to help, but I don't think I could fight like this.

I'm... afraid I'm not familiar with any dusk-related anything, really. Magic-sealing things I'm certainly familiar with, but...

[ She chews her bottom lip for a moment. ]

The only permanently magic altering substance I can think of is the Wagandea's Pollen, but that's... no, I'm doubtful, because we still have other magic. A witch afflicted by Wagandea's Pollen can, at worst, never use magic ever again. But whatever powers they've supposedly given us still work, so it can't be that. There must be some spell here sealing it, or this place is probably off a Ley Line... I don't know.

Without my wand, I... I'm afraid I can't tell.

I'm sorry, I've never heard of any of those things. Is your wand your duskbreaker? Mine is called beehive, but I can't use it except in a labyrinth.

The what? No, it's just an ordinary wand, for casting magic, the same thing all witches must use to cast magic. ... Perhaps there's a bit of a miscommunication...

Mmn, that sounds like what Ellie uses to harness her star energy. Mine is a gun [ A goddamn machine gun. ] ,but hers is a really large staff. Was that more clear? If I'm not doing a very good job of explaining things, I'm sorry.

Ahh... I'm afraid the most I know about "star energy" would be in relation to magical astrology, the class I teach. You can use magic to divine the future through reading the stars... that's what I do.

You can read the future? Is it in a book or do the words just appear across the sky? You must be really strong if you can.

No, actually. None of those things, although how to learn to do it does require some study. I use the astrology, the study of the stars, to predict the future. It's a fairly basic skill, but it's difficult to master.

Mmhmm. Stars are really important, and so is the Star God.

I see. That's very admirable, then! We DO have a bit of a view of the stars here, I could teach you a bit of astrology if you'd like. I'm not sure how well I'd be able to read the stars in this place, but I could certainly at least give you the fundamentals.
