It would make sense. Otherwise, I can't see what benefit there would be in killing two people. If anything, it would increase the chances that the culprit would leave behind identifying evidence.

The knocked-over stands are probably from someone chasing her, right? That means she was running away. Probably trying to get back to her room where she'd be safe...
