[Well, this is...happening. This is a thing. This is your life now. The Commander is expecting you to just up and kill one another, and then try to get away with it. No big deal, right? You guys can handle this. You won't fall for what she has. She's clearly an idiot. A loud idiot, but still an idiot. She's not going to get one over you.

In any case, the Commander's quarters are now open for anyone who decides they can actually stand to be in the same room as her, but beware - any favor you might ask of her is going to come at a price, and who knows what she'll ask you to do if you decide to gain a boon from her. Unless you're a suck-up like Baku - then she'll apparently be flattered. Maybe that's a good tactic to use?

[ His brow tenses, and he momentarily looks like he's not entirely here. It's as he holds a blink, he shakes his head and mutters. ]

My best guess is somebody was in the wrong place, at the wrong time? I can't imagine anyone... even wanting to hurt either of them. But, especially--

[ Akira's voice is briefly unsteady. ]

... Torri was... just a kid...

[Ah... She feels like she's on an amusement park ride gone wrong... Where's her stomach...?]

Hey... No offense, but you're pretty much a kid to me too, you know...? Don't beat yourself up. It's some other jerk who did it... And your kidnappers. Okay?

[ His mouth shifts into a thin line for a moment, but he remains quiet, rather than arguing. He is just a kid, isn't he? Even if, lately, he doesn't feel like one. ]

Yeah... [ forcing a small smile ] You're right.

[Why is she the one all these kids feel like they have to protect from the cruelties of the world? Angela feels really - the tension all flows down into her clenched left fist, and she pats Akira on the shoulder with her right hand.]

We're all gonna get you right back to high school, and you'll make a killer speech as prom king! [Exaggerated "silly me" laugh.] Oh, wait, they don't even have prom in Europe, I have no idea about Japan...

[ The smile becomes a little less forced at the reassuring pat to his shoulder. He chuckles and shakes his head. ]

I highly doubt I'd ever be prom king material, even if Japan did have that kind of thing. It's all some... popularity contest, and I'm kind of...

[ He shrugs the shoulder opposite of the one she pat. No need to go into why he thinks what he does. No need to explain the whole... criminal record thing or the matter of all that damn whispering he'd had to listen to on day one. He just... keeps it simple: ]

[Angela really imagines it for a second - Chloe with the blue streak in her hair all dolled up in spiderwebs as prom queen.

Figured what out, exactly? [ it's partly a form of teasing, partly him about to make a point ] I wouldn't be the person I am if not for everything I learned in the Metaverse. And, if I'm being perfectly honest, I still don't know who I'm supposed to be half the time.

[ A small, gentle smirk. ]

Life is all about learning.

Demons at least have rules. Humans are the ones who're unpredictable.

... Not all demons are predictable.

They have rules, yes, but he's correct. You try telling Loki that he's 'predictable'. I'll wait.

Loki, if I recall, isn't a demon. That's a god. Either way, we have to function inside the rules, so don't count on something like me killing someone unless the deal's good for me.

Not so in my world. When Yehowah - the one that people call 'God' - took power, He cast down all other gods to the demon world and they became demons. Extremely powerful ones, but demons nonetheless.

That sounds incredibly stupid.

He didn't want anyone else challenging Him.

No. I mean the idea that a God exists, let alone that one would be able to cast out other deities.

[ There's bitterness there. Yup. ]

... That's not how any of that works. There being one big God. I never saw any evidence of Him, anyway.

[ BOY DOES HE SOUND BITTER. ]

A very close friend of mine believed that when we died, universes were born of our own consciousnesses. All that we had thought, created, and were. That... is how it should work.

That's how it works in my world. I know that for a fact.

... And that's not what happens after you die in my world, but perhaps it is in yours.

Are we sure we're from multiple worlds at all? I mean, the confusion between the lot of us makes this make the most sense. Multiversal theories are certainly plausible, I simply... wonder why go to the trouble? And how they managed such a thing.

[ He taps his chin. There's a pause, and then he asks: ]

... How do you know about the death thing, though?

[ He's quiet, but he's eyeing Naoya with a bit of tension for a split second. ]

... Was there something you wanted to say, Akira?

[ He shakes his head. ]

It's another one of those things I can't put a finger on. For some reason, I spent some time reading about Loki. It felt important - kind of like I was doing it because of someone, even though I can't think of anyone.

[ Annnd just going to shrug now. ]
