WEEK 3

[As Marie said: so much for trust and resolve. Two people are dead, and there is very little anyone can do about it now, no matter how much they would have wanted to sacrifice themselves.

In particular, with Marie's words during the trial, it's clear that time is limited. Or is it? Marie is also capable of omitting the truth when it serves her needs, especially when it comes towards the Strangers and their still-missing memories. In any case, one can only hope they don't fall for her tricks again, even though getting away with murder would - apparently - save at least one life.

There is something else, as well. When everyone wakes up the morning, they will find that information on their wristwatches has been updated to reflect their new number - and something new about their powers. Not only that, but a new floor has opened up above Floor 1 for everyone to explore. Maybe more can be found on just what, exactly, is going on.

Is Marie telling the truth? Is the universe really ending? Or is it just another means of getting what she wants? Whatever is happening, people will need to be more careful around her - and one another. Who knows what Marie will offer next - or what your roommate or new friend is now capable of as a result. Especially since it's now known, thanks to Marie's actions during the trial, that everyone has definitely lost some memories. And unfortunately, no one seems to have regained any of them so far - or if anyone has, they haven't said a word.

If trust and resolve was ever needed, it feels like now is the time to try and find all that.

[Well he'd been exploring and hadn't gotten to look at the theater since the murder.]

[Instead of an empty room, what he finds is Nagisa, swinging around a knife. He lingers near the door, not wanting to get in his way. Once he's done with what looks like a set, Naoya speaks up.]

Full of surprises, aren't you?

[oh, company. A short break is in order then. Nagisa smiles, more or less cheerful.]

I didn't think anyone would come here, all things considered.

I was curious as to how it looked - I haven't been in here for a while.

It doesn't bother you?

Not really. [At all.] And it's useful to go somewhere no one wants to be, if I'm going to drill knifework. I don't want to hurt anyone.

That's true.

[He's quiet for a long moment.]

I'm a little surprised that someone your age has been taught how to use a knife so well, considering you seem fairly modern...

Ah...yeah. it was part of my class's education. Karasuma-sensei is military, so the curriculum was....atypical.

Heh. I wouldn't have thought that would have gotten past an education board. In any case, it'll probably serve you fairly well here.

It's a long story. ...I don't know how much of it he knew. I hoped I wouldn't need these skills here...

... And yet here we are, with two dead and... not very long to go until a transport apparently shows up to take Marie away.

And she'll take anyone who gets away with murder with her. Which begs the question....why is that the criteria? Marie-san isn't nice by any measure, but she doesn't strike me as a killer.

[More like she's trying very hard to be taken seriously as an Awful Person, but mostly actually being just ineffectual and petty.]

And you're a killer. Heh. But Marie... seems to be fond of twisted kind of entertainment.

I was told I'd be the valedictorian of our assassination classroom. [It's fond, more than it is proud. He was taught well. He did well, didn't he, sensei?]

She does...but she's a distraction.

Interesting. Not something that exists in my world, to my knowledge...

She is. But she also might be useful, if we can get her to leak more information.

I'm pretty sure it's one-of-a-kind. [And always will be. Theirs isn't an experience that can ever be repeated.]

My thoughts exactly. There's more to all of this, and they're not doing all that good a job of hiding it.

I'm sure there's always a need for it.

Getting her emotionally unstable doesn't seem that hard... perhaps there's something hidden in her room. The trick is getting her out of it.

I hope not. [That...pokes at his nagging concerns about what Akira had said regarding universes in danger. Hm.]

I don't think that will be too hard, if we work together. One person to distract her and keep her out, the other to search. ...ideally without the camerabots, either...

It's got to be someone who can take a lot of damage. ... Hm.

[There's also the fact that she's always listening in...]

Or someone who's skilled at dodging... She's not as untouchable as she thinks she is.

[Or maybe she's trying to convince herself she is? Hm.]

... Unfortunately I'm without many of my abilities here. Unless I get my COMP back...

It's... a gaming device in my world. Communication Player is the full name. But I have a program on it that enhances my abilities.

[He's....not sure how that works.] You can write programs that can do that? ...You're not an AI, are you?

What? Oh, no, no. Nothing like that. I simply found a way to adjust a human's vibrational wavelength to match that of a demon's. It doesn't give them an instant win button, but it gives them a better chance at fighting them.

A demon... [He's got nothin' there.] One of my classmates is an AI, we haven't found a system she can't hack.

I don't know about demons, but nothing has stopped me yet.

Heh. I'm one the most if not the most advanced programmers in my world. I can make a computer do almost anything, including predict what people are going to do. To a degree, of course.
