WEEK 1

WEEK 1

[The train wouldn't stop. Not until very early the next morning. The few who might have been awake would be able to exit the train, entering the cool twilight of the dawn. The star is dark, and few stars can be seen in the sky as a cold breeze begins to blow from the mountain beyond. You can see some chunks of rock floating idly nearby, far away from the station that it won't hit trains, but near enough that one can see they are larger than the train they just disembarked.

Lastly, laid out in front of them, the first port of call: Menahoven. The mountain: The Throat of the World.

But which world? Who knows. Not any of yours. Maybe it doesn't matter. Not when you are so far from home. Not when you have no way to get off this rock without the aid of the trains-and they will not let you pass.

It looks like you're stuck here until the Conductor decides to leave. In the meantime, everyone will need to get comfortable.

There are fifteen strangers left in this place.]

Hm? Oh. [ Hello there Eliza sliding right in next to him. ] Yeah. It's a book about some ice fields in someone elses' world. Like he said it's a little bit difficult to follow, but thankfully he drew me a map and told him a few things to help.
telecosmetic: (curious)

[personal profile] telecosmetic 2019-07-21 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, so it's more like a geography or history book? Does it have interesting stories at least?
eternaldivide: (ᴡᴇʀᴇ ʙᴏʀɴ ꜰʀᴏᴍ ʜᴇᴀᴠᴇɴ)

[personal profile] eternaldivide 2019-07-21 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I wouldn't consider what's in it stories, but I've been finding it pretty interesting so far.
telecosmetic: (smile)

[personal profile] telecosmetic 2019-07-22 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I bet it's more interesting than whatever books they have on this train.
eternaldivide: (ᴏᴄᴇᴀɴ ᴏꜰ ᴛʜᴇ ꜰᴏʀᴇsᴛ)

[personal profile] eternaldivide 2019-07-22 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
What sort of books do they have? I haven't really gone to look myself yet.
telecosmetic: (annoyed)

[personal profile] telecosmetic 2019-07-22 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't read them before...but a lot of them seem like the good parts were removed. Or else the authors are just really, really bad at writing interesting stories. [Eliza pouts a little.] Also there was a book called "1984" but it doesn't even seem to be a history book.
eternaldivide: (ᴏᴄᴇᴀɴ ᴏꜰ ᴛʜᴇ ꜰᴏʀᴇsᴛ)

[personal profile] eternaldivide 2019-07-22 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Were they all history books, or other books as well? [ either way ... weird ] Do you know what '1984' is about?
telecosmetic: (hmm...)

[personal profile] telecosmetic 2019-07-22 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, some of the other ones looked like stories. And...it was about this kind of weird kind of place where there's only three countries and a bunch of strange new vocabulary. And the government is something called "The Party"...it sounded more like something from a really bad future.

[ Three countries ... is having so little countries really that weird ... ]

How ... odd. I've never heard of them to be known as that. I just know that the royalty do have their ... ah, parties. I suppose.

[ Of course he's never been to one so ... ]
telecosmetic: (explanation mode)

[personal profile] telecosmetic 2019-07-23 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think it's a different sort of party. At least there don't seem to be any fun parties in the book. It's really boring, though I guess that makes sense if it's supposed to be some kind of history...

[ hmm ... ]

I'm not opposed to reading some history. Maybe I'll take a look at it after this one ...
telecosmetic: (hmm...)

[personal profile] telecosmetic 2019-07-23 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno if it's the history of this place. Because if it is there's probably been a lot of changes. [Such as having a queen and all that, apparently.]

[personal profile] eternaldivide 2019-07-23 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, even if it isn't it'd serve as a good distraction, I suppose. But it would also depend on how much of the book itself has been altered or erased.
telecosmetic: (hmm...)

[personal profile] telecosmetic 2019-07-24 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a lot of timeskips where it seems like things should have been described in more detail...I don't know what the original was like, though, so I can't really make a full comparison.

Does it flow enough to where it won't be confusing to try and read it? Even with the missing details-- it's possibly that those parts of history weren't as remembered as others.

[ ... he doubts it, with what she's said about the books so far, but it's possible ]
telecosmetic: (hmm...)

[personal profile] telecosmetic 2019-07-25 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
I guess...you can kind of put it together? I didn't read through it in that much detail because of how boring it was...
