WEEK 2
[It is again early morning when the train docks next. This time, however, the dock is not as busy. There are few trains to be seen, and even fewer people. Only a man stands at the dock, teeth sharp in his smile, scelera a deep gold as he stares beneath his fedora.
"Unexpected," he said with a smile. A two-dimensional dog with the head of a scribbled black cloud hops by, ignoring him. "But not unwanted. Do make yourselves comfortable."
This new place is known as Victoria's Chasm, named after an Empress. No, not that one. Her Thrice-Renewed Majesty is quite comfortable on her Throne, and rulled for much longer than 99 days, thank you very much.
In the distance, black begins to erupt like tendrils. Lightning flashes through the clouds. This is the land of monsters; tread carefully. And do not despair, whatever you do.

EVIDENCE: Empress Experiences Second Apotheosis; Empire Celebrates Platinum and Pearl Jubilee
“We have officially gained a new, and more glorious vision regarding the future of our eternal Empire,” read her statement, which was sent directly to all newspapers and tele-vision stations throughout our lands. “Gazing at the Sun, our most perfect work, we have decided that the lion shall be a lamb. We have declared victory and peace in our war with the rebels of the Reach, whose leaders came to me personally to submit surrender after a decade of futility. And so, a new quarter of Heaven belongs to us, and we have been again renewed. No longer shall we be a twice-renewed Victoria Erica; in this year of nineteen hundred twelve, by the reckoning of our fondly-remembered Replaced Earth, and forever after, we shall henceforth be the Thrice-Renewed, Victoria Misercordia.
“We also, with this decree, hereby declare this year to be the Platinum and Pearl. Let our people rejoice with a jubilee, for we are and shall always be Eternal.”
As this year, 1912, marks the 75th year of Her Enduring Majesty’s reign over what is now unequivocally the greatest Empire in the universe, and 30 years since the lifting of London from the most abysmal depths to its current seat of glory, the name change is fitting and timely, and so this year has now been declared one of celebrations and triumph. The Platinum and Pearl Jubilee will thus be marked across the entirety of our lands with a list of magnificent events, to celebrate all that Britain has accomplished, but more especially, what our Queen has accomplished and become.
We of the Register celebrate the Empress’ continued evolution, and we bow and pray to her in loving adulation of her eternal Presence. May Victoria Misercordia reign over us forever more, or at least until the next obligatory name change.
In the meantime, we reached out to our sources in the Reach to confirm the Tacketies’ surrender to our perfect ruler; at the time of printing we have yet to receive a response.

Misericordia - Mercy from Latin. Erica - eternal ruler from Norse. Whatever happened to good old Alexandrina the defender?
[Beatrice looks for any photos in the newspaper, in particular, ones she could compare to the creepy portrait. She assumes it's of one of the Empress's forms, but she's a bit curious which one.]

According to the papers, the Empress has not had her image taken since before her beloved Consort died. Well, died the first time, over 50 years ago. In fact, she's forbidden any new images of her since then.
But she can do that sort of thing. She is the Empress, after all.]
