WEEK 2

WEEK 2

[It is again early morning when the train docks next. This time, however, the dock is not as busy. There are few trains to be seen, and even fewer people. Only a man stands at the dock, teeth sharp in his smile, scelera a deep gold as he stares beneath his fedora.

"Unexpected," he said with a smile. A two-dimensional dog with the head of a scribbled black cloud hops by, ignoring him. "But not unwanted. Do make yourselves comfortable."

This new place is known as Victoria's Chasm, named after an Empress. No, not that one. Her Thrice-Renewed Majesty is quite comfortable on her Throne, and rulled for much longer than 99 days, thank you very much.

In the distance, black begins to erupt like tendrils. Lightning flashes through the clouds. This is the land of monsters; tread carefully. And do not despair, whatever you do.

There are fifteen strangers left in this place.]

My focus is in transmutation - changing one thing into another. I used to be an evocation specialist - that is, someone who deals with spells that evoke elemental forces. I still do that, but it is no longer my focus. I can do many things, from making small lights appear to cancelling another spell to creating a large cat paw out of magical force. I cannot heal others, however. That is more of a... cleric sort of thing.

Evocation specialist. I've never heard of those who use elemental forces be named that. I suppose it's different depending on the magic of each world. I can do a little of what all you had said ... though I cannot create a large cat paw out of magical force.

[ It's an interesting image, though ]

However, I mostly specialize in elemental magic myself. And ... summoning, as well.

There are a number of schools of magic, and each one can be specialized in. ... What sort of things do you summon?
eternaldivide: (ᴏᴄᴇᴀɴ ᴏꜰ ᴛʜᴇ ꜰᴏʀᴇsᴛ)

[personal profile] eternaldivide 2019-07-25 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you go to one of these schools to be taught your magic?

Spirits. If you form a pact with them, as long as you don't break their pact, then you are able to summon them for a time. But first you must prove your strength before you can form the pact.

[personal profile] katzenpfote 2019-07-25 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[His face goes pale for a moment before he realizes what Mithos means.]

Oh. Oh, no, a school is a type of magic, like evocation or transmutation.

... I see. Technically that would be some sort of pact-based magic... technically summoning them is an act of conjuration.

[Technically. He rubs at his arms again.]

Frumpkin is a summoned spirit... but I don't have him attack very much. He is... eh... not very sturdy, and summoning him is expensive.

[personal profile] eternaldivide 2019-07-25 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah-- sorry. I've never heard of that being used as a term for magic. I apologize.

Is that so? I guess the magic from my world and your world are quite different. The spirits are known as Summon Spirits, and those who can use their power and can make pacts are known as Summoners.

[ Frumpkin ... Mithos smiles at the cat he had just a little bit before returning him to Caleb ]

I wasn't aware! He's certainly far different than the spirits back home. Much ... Cuter, for one. How much does it take normally to summon him?
katzenpfote: (embarrassed)

[personal profile] katzenpfote 2019-07-26 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Interesting...

[Oh hai are we talking about me? Frumpkin trots up to Mithos and meows.]

It takes some amount of incense and herbs and such things... it can get expensive to be a wizard between material spell components that are consumed as well as ink and paper for copying spells.

[personal profile] eternaldivide 2019-07-26 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Oh hello there Frumpkin! Mithos will kneel down and give the cat a few pets ]

Ah, so you need materials spell components for all your spells? Or only for specific ones.
katzenpfote: (gentle smile)

[personal profile] katzenpfote 2019-07-27 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Mrow!

[Hello to you, too.]

For some of them... the more powerful ones require quite expensive components.

[personal profile] eternaldivide 2019-07-30 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
[ Mithos smiles. What a good cat! More pets for the good kitty before looking at Caleb ]

Mmm. Makes sense. The more powerful something is, the more powerful the components would have to be. Is this a basis for all magic in your world, regardless of who uses it?
katzenpfote: (intense)

[personal profile] katzenpfote 2019-07-30 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I believe many magic users do need them. Sometimes they are consumed, and sometimes they are not. For example, I can cast Chromatic Orb many times using that diamond, but a very expensive diamond is required to revive the dead, and that diamond is consumed in the process.
eternaldivide: (ᴏᴄᴇᴀɴ ᴏꜰ ᴛʜᴇ ꜰᴏʀᴇsᴛ)

[personal profile] eternaldivide 2019-07-30 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
So with the right material you could even revive the dead? That's ... impressive magic.

It's quite a bit different from the magic from my world, in any case. Most magic could only be used by those with Eleven Blood. Those without Eleven blood could only use magic if they ingest a rock known as Aionis.
katzenpfote: (gazing up)

[personal profile] katzenpfote 2019-07-30 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen it done.

... It's a stereotype that those of elven blood can use magic more easily in my world, but they also have a longer time to learn it. What is Aionis, however?
eternaldivide: (ᴀɴᴅ ᴍᴏᴠᴇ ᴀʜᴇᴀᴅ)

[personal profile] eternaldivide 2019-07-30 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
I've heard of people trying necromancy, but I don't think I've heard of anyone successfully doing so until now.

... Elves do live longer than humans, so I can see why people think that of them. I ... admit that because of my world I didn't think humans could learn magic without special circumstances until you told me. A bit embarrassing, on my part.

Aionis is a rock with large mana properties. Due to these properties if a human were to ingest it they'll develop enough mana within to use magic to an extent. But beyond that there aren't many other ways.
katzenpfote: (battle)

[personal profile] katzenpfote 2019-07-30 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
It's more of a divine spell when clerics use it, technically...

[Caleb you are literally the only one on the train who cares about spell classifications.]

I see... 'mana' is something that's needed to use magic in your world?
eternaldivide: (ɪꜰ ᴇᴠᴇɴ ᴀ ʀᴜsᴛᴇᴅ ᴅᴇᴄᴏᴍᴘᴏsɪɴɢ)

[personal profile] eternaldivide 2019-07-30 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm... the strongest spells healers can learn back home are Revive and Resurrection. But despite the names even those cannot bring back the dead.

[ because aaah jrpg life ]

Yes. Mana is basically like water in my world. Without mana the world can't survive. Those with Eleven blood can use the mana within them for their spells. However, the mana inside humans aren't substantial enough.

[personal profile] katzenpfote 2019-07-31 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
In my world it's either asking a god for assistance or learning to manipulate the Weave of magic. Some can do it from birth, others study for many years to be able to do it, and some use stranger tactics than even those.

[Bards.]
