WEEK 2
[It is again early morning when the train docks next. This time, however, the dock is not as busy. There are few trains to be seen, and even fewer people. Only a man stands at the dock, teeth sharp in his smile, scelera a deep gold as he stares beneath his fedora.
"Unexpected," he said with a smile. A two-dimensional dog with the head of a scribbled black cloud hops by, ignoring him. "But not unwanted. Do make yourselves comfortable."
This new place is known as Victoria's Chasm, named after an Empress. No, not that one. Her Thrice-Renewed Majesty is quite comfortable on her Throne, and rulled for much longer than 99 days, thank you very much.
In the distance, black begins to erupt like tendrils. Lightning flashes through the clouds. This is the land of monsters; tread carefully. And do not despair, whatever you do.
There are fifteen strangers left in this place.]

I ... didn't think that was something that could be made from media ...
[ Yeah so Media in Mithos' world would be ... print. But more so materials used in paint and clay which doesn't match up to what King is saying at all ]
Is there a way for you to .. prove your theory?
no subject
[sigh]
Okay, it's more like a trope in visual entertainment. Like, someone feels like a painting is watching them, they leave the room, and the painting blinks.
And I would try taking them off the wall, except for, well...
[He can't reach.]
no subject
[ look they at least have those there! Probably... the most visually entertaining thing they have ... ]
... I'd help, but I don't think I'd be able to either.
[ He's taller that the dog but he's still one of the shortest people here being the shortest male and taller than several of the females by .... a centimeter. ]
They like to stick things up pretty high, don't they...
no subject
[He can see that happening in a play! It'd probably be a comedic mystery, but he could believe it would happen!]
Yup. Yet again, it feels like they're just taunting me.
[Mithos might notice that King is messing with something around his neck as he says that.]
no subject
[ It's an interesting one. Someone hiding behind a painting. ]
... Yeah, I understand what you mean.
[ Mithos notices, alright. He hesitates for a minute before speaking again. ]
That ... item around your neck. Is it from someone important?
no subject
[What can he say? He’s not exactly creatively inclined.
He looks up when he asks that, having been looking down, distracted.]
Oh, yeah, it...it is.
[He moves his hand, letting Mithos see that the item is a blue bandana.]
no subject
[ Mithos never had the time to sit down and be creative ]
... Whose is it?
[ It looks like a nice bandana and if he's wearing it then ... it must be really important. ]
no subject
It’s Bailey’s. She’s...she’s my wife.
[And if Mithos remembers King’s little breakdown on Tuesday, he should know why King sounds so apprehensive when saying this.]
no subject
[ Yeah, although Mithos was having a bit of his own breakdown he does remember King not... taking well to the hostage video. ]
I ... actually received an item that belongs to someone really important to me, as well.
[ Maybe ... they are taunting them. ]
... May I ask what she's like? Your wife ...
no subject
Yup. Definitely mocking us.
[No doubts in his mind now.
It's hard for him to look up and respond to the question, but he does, after a second.]
She's...amazing. She cares a lot, to the point that...even at my lowest moments, she still stays with me. She even married me, despite how it usually looks for dogs to do that.
And when the going gets tough, [He lets out a small laugh.] it's best to get out of her way. I've seen her nearly cave in a dog's muzzle like it was nothing, and go up against a witch cat with only a fancy suit of armor and a sword. She's...all that I could ever want, really.
…can I ask about yours? The person who owns the item you got?
no subject
She sounds amazing. Strong, too. And she's lucky to have someone who cares so much about her. I ... hope the two of you can be reunited.
[ After that Mithos is silent for a while. King told him what he asked, so ... it's only fair that he does the same. ]
Martel, my sister. [ He pulls out a panflute from his pocket. Maybe it's not safe to carry it on him but ... it can't help it. He doesn't want to leave it behind in a room he's not comfortable in. ] This is her panflute.
She's probably the most gentle, kindest person you'll ever meet. No matter how bad things get, she would always be there with her smile. No matter how cruel the world is, she'll always talk about how much she loves the world. If you're hurt she'll be right there to help and comfort you. Playing this flute was one way she would.
no subject
[He really is, as far as he's concerned.
Listening to Mithos talk about Martel...even if he didn't have siblings, he can feel his heartstrings being tugged by his description. The kid really cares for her, and he can understand why.]
She sounds wonderful. And it seems like you're both lucky to have each other.
And...we'll try our hardest to get that flute back to her. I promise.
no subject
She is. I don't know what I'd do without her.
[ ... ]
Same with your wife and her bandana. Until then, although they might be taunting us, we can keep these items close to us. Maybe I'll ... play the flute a little. Maybe doing so will help.
no subject
I'm sure it will, kid.
[And he is. Even if it's a small thing, it really could help with the group, if they plan it right later.
For now, though, he'll look around once more before looking back at Mithos.]
How about we get back to the train now?
no subject
Then it takes a look around himself before responding. ]
Ah-- Good idea. Looking at these portraits more ... there is truly something unsettling about them.
[ Maybe it's because King's theory. The idea of someone behind the painting mmm yep ]
no subject
Yeah, I...think we both spent a little too long in here.
[Think?
Either way, he’s walking towards the door, feeling a bit better than when he entered.]
