WEEK 2

WEEK 2

[A week has passed. There's been no body, no investigation, no trial. No deaths. Congratulations!

Now the question is, will it last? At the moment, the Commander seems content with forcing people to do petty and mean-spirited errands in return for a mere shower. On the one hand, it's just for showers. On the other hand, what if the demands start to get more extreme? Would caving in encourage her? Is anyone willing to try and find out?

Honesty, with all the strange dates and information floating around from what's been uncovered, the only one in this place who's probably not worried as the time slips into its next movement is Sir Riprazor McRockfang. That's right, he's a sir. A grumpy sir, yes, but still a sir. No one's going to mess with him, regardless of what his true origins may be. And if they do, beware - he bites. Omnom. Good luck, everyone.

There are fifteen strangers - and one alligator - in this place.]

mementodagger: (doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone)

[The week is ticking by quickly and no one has made a move yet. Judging by the reactions of some people, the Commander's potential pool of killers isn't what she thinks it is. Either this is the wrong motivation, people don't believe it's possible, or... Yurick's too tired to think of more possibilities.

He's been spending his days reading in the library, occasionally mixing things up by tinkering with the computers or the kitchen, tired of feeling ignorant in the face of this "technology" thing. There's even been a couple of days where he's avoided everyone, even if it means tucking himself into the most obscure and tiny corners. It's not like he needs friends here.

Later today, though, he ends up in the theater, trying to figure out how the video machine works. He won't admit it out loud, but he's curious about these moving images. Who knows, there could be clues hidden in them?]

[Someone else is in the computer room, because of course he is. He always is. He looks up at Yurick... he hasn't said anything for a bit, but...]

What are you working on?
mementodagger: (this is what makes me go on)

[personal profile] mementodagger 2018-07-26 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not working on anything, really. I'm trying to learn these blasted things. We've nothing like this where I'm from.

[Considering he's back in his normal clothes (thank you, Akira), he's wearing leather and even some armored pieces. Which... probably shows he's from a more medieval/fantasy setting rather than anything approaching modern.]
crouching_sin: (mine is an evil smirk)

[personal profile] crouching_sin 2018-07-26 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm... well, I might be able to help. What are you looking at now?

[He gets up and goes over to Yurick, glancing at his screen.]
mementodagger: (don't wanna spend my life jaded)

[personal profile] mementodagger 2018-08-01 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
[The monitor is displaying a basic menu to select available games and information. At least Yurick's figured out that pressing a number opens the associated program, but he's a very slow hunt and peck typist and he has no idea how to work any of the games.]

I'm not even certain. Are these really so useful in your world?
crouching_sin: (looking over my shoulder for a chance)

[personal profile] crouching_sin 2018-08-01 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, absolutely. They're used... basically everywhere. Homes, work, the vehicles we use to get around, the entertainment systems we use... it's difficult to not encounter a computer nowadays, if not impossible.
mementodagger: (crash and burn you're not alone)

[personal profile] mementodagger 2018-08-02 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been reading in the library here almost daily, and some of the places described in a few books remind me of my world. But they've been listed as fantasy or ancient history. Certainly no computers in those worlds, either.
crouching_sin: (so call me maybe?)

[personal profile] crouching_sin 2018-08-03 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, well. There's all sorts of worlds represented here, I suppose. We all think of our worlds as 'modern', don't we?

[Nagisa's been making a project of making the kitchen here more accessible, considering the bulk of their food is...not the standard, for most people. Yesterday's cook-off gave him some new thoughts, especially after dealing with Molly's total lack of knowledge. Today's project: writing up a glossary of cooking terms people who don't know how to use ovens might need defined simply. Thanks, Molly.]

Hey. [Generic greeting, mostly.]
mementodagger: (a name in your recollection)

[personal profile] mementodagger 2018-08-01 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Hello, Nagisa.

[There's that same less frosty tone he uses only for Nagisa. While Yurick doesn't really smile, his expression is far less harsh and closed off as well.]

Are you working on something? I can be out of your way, then, I'll only hinder you. I know how to cook over a hearth or campfire, but not this.
theserpentsmiles: (Well you're not the only one)

[personal profile] theserpentsmiles 2018-08-01 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
[!!! Another non-modern chef!]

Actually, that kind of knowledge is exactly what I could use right now. Tealeaf-san didn't have any idea how to cook at all, so I'm trying to make the kitchen easier to use for everyone. [He isn't sure how much he's taking for granted in his explanations, but he doesn't want to talk down to anyone, either!]
mementodagger: (this is what makes me go on)

[personal profile] mementodagger 2018-08-01 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
I fail to see how my knowledge of open-flame cooking can be useful here. Unless you were planning to build a fire in here, though I imagine it would count as damaging property. I'd hate to see what the Commander would do to us for it.
theserpentsmiles: (I won't be pushed around)

[personal profile] theserpentsmiles 2018-08-01 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Headshake.] I'm not actually cooking anything, just trying to figure out what needs to be explained for ease of use and how best to explain it.
mementodagger: (sometimes silence accomplishes nothing)

[personal profile] mementodagger 2018-08-02 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
So you're trying to help those of us who don't understand how this works. That's very considerate of you.

[He runs a hand over the countertop.]

I would prefer to make my own meals, in case someone decides to attempt poisoning.
theserpentsmiles: (Who break their backs slaving every day)

[personal profile] theserpentsmiles 2018-08-10 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Right. But most of the technology here is a little behind what I'm used to, so... I kind of don't have a lot of reference for how someone who sees it all as really advanced would need it explained.

[And writing it as fit for preschoolers would just be insulting.]

That's a good reason. I'm not sure what kinds of poison would be available here, but...people can get creative.
