Motive- Money (It's a Crime)

[Around noon, a shrill beeping comes from all the cellphones no matter where you're at. A text notice appears but the sender is not listed. And you better look at it otherwise that beeping won't stop.]

Everyone wants something in life. That simple urge to be able to survive without fear or regret comes to mind and you seem to have that same drive. At least on first impressions. But we all know that when push comes to shove, there are those who are willing to step on others to get to that goal.

So what do YOU seek: Power? Fame?

Or maybe your desire is much more in the physical realm?

[Attached to the text is a photograph. And when the Strangers open it up...wow, that's a sudden pile of cash popping in. And to boot, it's of the currency of that particular phone user.]

That is real money and it comes to...about one hundred million and it is yours ONLY if you manage to follow Rule 7. Sounds simple enough even for your pitful brains to comprehend. And no, you will not be able to tell where the picture is taken. I'm not a blundering idiot like some others.

[And it's true. There are no clues or features to tell where the picture is taken place.]

[In a mocking low voice.] "This is real money." [Reverting to his normal tone - an indifferent one.] Seriously? What's next, a severed finger? "This is really the flesh of someone important to you!"

I bet they wouldn't even give the money. They'd show you the cellphone with this big number full of zeroes, and they'd say 'here's your reward, have fun'.

[Who is going to fall for this trick?]

[By the time anyone lays eyes on Dio, he has already shut his phone and put it back in his pocket, like water off a duck's back. Did he even take time to read the whole thing?]

Tch, of course they'd have it lying around... if these guys are such philanthropists, you'd think they could just get their kicks from sending each of us five mill in the mail.

[Kurama is just shaking his head rather disappointedly as he looks at the pile of yen. He doesn't look even a little bit impressed. He's seen money as a motive for murder often enough, but that's never been his particular form of greed.

The message is at least slightly more interesting.]

Arrogant. Truly and amazingly arrogant. Well, that tells us something, at least.

Money? Really? Come on. That's just...boring.

[Spoken like a child of wealth and privilege even if she doesn't see it that way, but at least if they'd offered fame she could have gotten a momentary thrill before remembering that that's not worth killing someone over.]

Perhaps a bit. I'm trying not to, however. Money for the sake of money is a disgusting motive for murder, but my mother was in the hospital last year. It was within our means, but not everyone is so fortunate.

You even need to ask? Really. Trying to get us to kill over something like money seems a little desperate right from the get go.

It's dangerous to assume greed is the only possible reason.

Unless someone has a life-or-death situation back home that can be resolved with money, this isn't particularly impressive. Greed isn't exactly the most understandable motive for murder I've ever heard of.

[ There's a small pause after Karma reads that message, a laugh escaping him before he shook his head. Fingers tapping against the drink in his hand, his gaze tilts upward. ]

Right. Insulting us really doesn't sound that motivating. Same with the cash.

[ Karma looks almost bored as he says that. ]

That's really the best they can come up with?

[ There's a lengthy pause as he simply stares at his own phone. Briefly, his grip tightens on the phone, his eyes narrowing. Who the hell are they hoping to tempt with this?

Is there someone that greedy among them? He knows all about people's words and actions not always matching their external behavior, but to actually kill over money!?

On the other hand...

There is the option of debt or illness...

It's with that, his expression softens in thought before he heads off to take a moment to think. ]

Oh, do you really think I would care about something like that? Luna Nova has survived hundreds of years on its own without the help of others, and if all I cared about was my salary, I wouldn't be a teacher!
